Why did you choose a 10% stop instead of an ATR-based stop? And why 10% and not 8% or some other number?
Did you use scatter plots of a statistically significant sample size to determine that losers that reach 10% never come back?

Milk, the position size is built from the stop. Percentage stops outperform ATR stops for these short-term trades. Typically what happens is that the ATR stops ratchet down hard right before a large increase in volatility (meaning you have a larger position due to the previously lower volatility) and then there are a whole slew of trades that will get stopped out. ATR stops will also have you taking smaller positions after a bout of increased volatility, meaning you now have small positions as volatility is decreasing, when actually it should be the opposite.
This system has generated over 2500 trades over a 10 year period. Testing shows that lowering the stops to 8 or even 6% can improve performance but it comes at the expense of %profitable and larger drawdowns. A 10% stop gives a nice balance between the size of the avg. trade, the %profitable, and the size of the drawdown.

CSIQ: may consolidate but it may not. Fundies are beautiful and This market keeps stopping out traders and marching higher. I’ll hold through consolidation should it happen, but I believe earnings and momentum will carry set this a fire!!
