Saturday Night at Chess Cinemas

Regardless of your politics, The War Room (1993) is a fascinating and very well done documentary about the behind-the-scenes workings of the 1992 Bill Clinton presidential campaign. The documentary stars James Carville, George Stephanopoulos, and Heather Beckel.

The 1992 presidential election was a triumph not only for Bill Clinton but also for the new breed of strategists who guided him to the White House—and changed the face of politics in the process. For this thrilling, behind-closed-doors account of that campaign, renowned cinema verité filmmakers Chris Hegedus and D. A. Pennebaker captured the brainstorming and bull sessions of Clinton’s crack team of consultants—especially James Carville and George Stephanopoulos, who became media stars in their own right as they injected a savvy, youthful spirit and spontaneity into the process of campaigning. Fleet-footed and entertaining, The War Room is a vivid document of a political moment whose truths (“It’s the economy, stupid!”) still ring in our ears.

And Chess is Sayin’ “Whaddya Want from Me?”

You have to love this tape–One market goes one way, the other goes another, and…well, if you have seen Goodfellas (1990) you know the rest of the scene.

Actionable opportunities in silver, the miners, and coffee made our week inside 12631. Headed into next week, more actionable opportunities are for the taking.

Overall, though, I am very proud to report that we have suffered no major drawdowns in 2014 and for much of 2013.

Indeed, we strive to do just that, stay disciplined, inside our 12631 Trading Service, which @RaginCajun and I direct. I can assure you that a membership to 12631 is well worth its price over the long run.

The way we see it, the big winners will eventually take care of itself–What we care about most is mitigating downside and not being stubborn with losers, and not taking on unnecessary risks. In addition, we strive to preserve a top shelf, quality atmosphere for traders of all backgrounds. We fuse together actionable idea flow with a constant emphasis on proper risk management techniques in our streaming, Twitter-like, state of the art chat room.

Also, be sure to catch my next Weekly Strategy Session.

Please click here for details about joining. Please also note that members of our 12631 Trading Service receive the Strategy Session each weekend at no additional cost.

See you there.

Have a great weekend!

They’re Not Just Here to Amuse You

While the likes of Costco and Starbucks have been very generous to traders/investors in recent years, they have been consistent short ideas of mine in recent weeks.

Today, updating their daily charts you can see the continued underperformance.

When you factor in a name like Ford, as well, all below their 200-day moving averages, what does this tell you about the consumer and perhaps the market at-large?

Simply put, we have been out in front of, and then all over, the commodities trade inside the 12631 Trading Service, as well as in my Weekly Strategy Session.

Whether it be metals, miners, natural gas, or soft commodities, our group has not missed an opportunity to capture alpha–You would be remiss not to check out the above services.

Returning back to sugar, you can see the hurly chart continues to outperform other softs today. If all goes well, the sugar ETN should be in the $60’s soon. $54 almost assuredly needs to hold on the downside if we see any violent shakes.
