As i just posted on the last post… Bought BPOP @ 2.40, Bought RTK @ 2.00
Still in both from Thursday (maybe wednesday, don’t remember). both looking great
Hope you got at least some break time CA.
Looking at some pain in the shorts today; ATPG, KPPC, GTXI, TLB, YRCW – in particular TLB seems a perpetual squeeze fest and a possible surprise in earnings could be exciting.
SAY is always on my list along with the usuals, DRYS, HBAN, KEY
HLCS will be spectacular today
hey doc — thanks for HLCS. someone bought 4 machines and its up up 25%.
I have no idea how this will go, but I believe the odds greatly favor it going “well” – enjoy the days ride!
Our old buddy must have mind melded with a fish or something. What a wikipedia entry JoshFish would make for how not to be when it comes to investing.

Actually it’s pretty sad. When I first read him in the PG I thought it was a joke or something. With all of the talent around here it’s pretty amazing that he didn’t pick up a little to improve his trading.
I’m such a loser I dug a littled deeper. He’s heavily into online Poker. I gotta believe he’s just playing with “old” money – no one I know who works for a living could be like this guy.
doc, you mind if I ask you to share your insights on how you pick these short squeeze stocks?
screen over 20% short float, ave vol over 200K, price over 20d and price up. Then I look at the charts and the sector action.
thanks doc!
wouldn’t you want the float to be less? Cause that’s what those ahole wants when they want to squeeze you out?
Which screener do you use?
Thanks.
Higher percentage of available shares short is better, and the ratio is important = days to cover based on average volume. More days to cover means more pressure on the shorts when it’s hot. TLB takes 8+ days of normal trading for all the shorts to clear – they can’t get out without spiking volume – all the action brings in packs of voracious day traders and it gets better and better. Like blues feeding along the rhode island shore.
TLB can go for a while. YRCW has 1/4 the ratio of TLB so the squeeze is over fast.
All in theory of course. The squeezes I’ve seen come in waves over the day – I see YRCW is picking up again.
I use FINVIZ. Keep in mind though my success has been good with squeezes, my experience with this shit is limited – luck has been with me no doubt.
Sold BPOP @ 2.38 and RTK @ 2.00

Hello everyone … hope the end f August dullness treated you all well I just came back from vaca and I see i missed some pretty nice recent action but ready to bank some coin. Let’s hope the dollar dies a slow death and we can get back on that materials and oil plays that made me most of my coin in the past. I see uncle Jake’s metals have been on fire and wish I had held more then just EGO and a small TCK position …. need to do some research before jumping in and piggyback some daytrades from you guys.

9:56 EDT JAZZ Rumor: Jazz Pharma moves higher on renewed takeover speculation.
wouldn’t surprise me – JAZZ has a great pipeline and is likely a huge factor in neuro medicine moving forward. I was planning on getting back in on a retracement…

has received initial approval from the Chinese government to build what may become the largest solar field in the world. First Solar, which makes more solar cells than any other company, said it struck a tentative 10-year deal to build in China’s vast desert north of the Great Wall. The project would eventually blanket 25 square miles (64 sq. kilometers) of Inner Mongolia with a sea of black, light-absorbing glass.
At 2 gigawatts, or 2 billion watts, the solar plant could pump as much energy onto China’s grid as two coal-fired plants, enough to light up three million homes!

OCLS b/o
EGMI (thin one)
Short /NG 2.814
Covered /NG 2.812
+ 2 ticks
Bought more HLCS at 2.87 – this is now 25% of my portfolio – way out of line – and extremely speculative. However I’m up over 100% for the year and my cost basis is pretty darn good (up almost 60% on the shares I currently hold)
I see no reason to change my perspective on the pressures faced by both research and commercial facilities to buy this machine as opposed to the competitions older technology. HLCS just earned themselves another quarter of time, and a million in recurring revenue, and it’s only been a few weeks. The few well heeled competitors will not be selling any new machines, and will be faced with quite a conundrum to quote Christopher Walken.

Congrats Doc …but it sounds like the CA community may have to perform an intervention.
Yeah, I’m torn thinking I’m an idiot and not telling anyone I’m an idiot. Unlike the JoshFish at least I know I’m capable of being an idiot.
I have taken risks throughout my life though – at least I’m doing this with a fat cushion of coinage and putting decades of my professional experience to use.
I’ve been waiting for CA to ban my sorry ass – not that the market might not do it anyway in a very public, educational way…
I don’t buy these HLCS afternoon fades (well, I guess I have been). Spike in the premarket and EOD? Something’s going on – must be easy to move the stock given the float. Watch for the EOD action.
No doubt Purdy, surprised CA hasn’t banished my sorry ass. I’m torn between being an idiot and being open here about it to help provide a clear lesson when the position crashes and burns. Having a very comfy cushion and the comfort of being able to consider the science from my professional background helps me follow the garden path here.
I don’t buy this AM spike with the intraday fade – often followed by the EOD power up again (well, I have been a buyer). Seems with the small float it’s easy to push this around in a range.
Bought ARIA @ 2.57
Out flat @ 2.57

Well I won’t be around to watch it develop, but a cup and handle could be forming on /6E, my pt would be around 1.460/1461 if it plays out.

AMCC about to break intraday

+27 ticks 1st half $540
+105 ticks 2nd half $2100
$2640 total
wanted it for a bigger move tomorrow but I’ll take my money today.
The next ~100 ticks to the downside will not go as easily (lots of congestion here) but I see a 2.7 handle coming – may be overnight or tomorrow but /NG got ahead of itself with one hell of a short covering rally.
Just watch the OPEC meeting (we’re tracking crude again) & the beige book (most likely a minor event)…
MGI looking good
Sold RTK 1.97… disappointed
/GC (gold) should have bounced @ 994.60 – blasted right through it…
IMO very negative for gold short term.
BAD omen for crude oil, nat gas, Euros, etc. This was a correlated trade.
shorts should go for 987 to 981 range
Terranova will say he sold today causing panic… ha ha ha.
got it – 983.2 low so far
Nice one retox. Saw /GC go to 993.50 and back off yesterday. What are you using on your short term charts? I use trendlines, candles, with stochastics, but I’m think the stoch signals too troublesome–any suggestions? How did you come up with the 994.60 support? Thanks.
Thats a hell of a bounce.
Stalling again.
1 hour chart from the 1st & 2nd (the start of the big push up). Just a simple trendline that I knew a lot of traders would be looking at as a stop and/or an area to short.
Trendlines, support/resistance levels, volume, OHLC chart (I can’t do candles), and simple patterns only. In addition, reports, sentiment, interaction of markets, and a little gut.
few K of TZA @ 13.50 for a swing
longs will try to take /NG back at 2.800 – ready to scalp it for 20 or so ticks.
It’s NOT a small tax – It may be incorrect but the information I’ve received regarding the per-trade tax puts the amount at $6-$13 on average PER CONTRACT in the futures market.
This will take A LOT of liquidity out of these markets.
It will also drive up the cost of all commodities (and energy) priced by these contracts. Think sugar, food, metals, building materials, etc.
CNXT looks immenent
Fail
Out of ARNA @ $5.09
SWM 50.40
YRCW bought @ 2.63 in afterhours… news out
Expecting a gap up 2moro?
added CPE before the close @ 1.91
/NG 15 minute chart looks like a bird looking to the sky while giving me the finger saying – “short me you bitch”.
Nothin doin until the 10:30 inventory report.
Tempting pattern. Do you always include outside-of-NY-trading-hours in your charting of futures?
The best part to me is that we sliced through the uptrend lines – we just need to decisively move below 2.800 and I think we see a lot of longs unwind.
Just too risky taking that before the report though.
I don’t trade much at all afterhours but I always use the data.
did it – now going for 2.759
Euro, oil, SPX said it was going…
oil, euro approach support 71 / 1.4500 – /NG should go a little more
Got my fill at 2.759
+42 ticks
OUT until after 10:30 nat gas & 11:00 crude reports – I PROMISE!
2.759 proved to be a tough level to clear
Massive move on DVAX …
