BIDU knocked me out last month because I didn’t buy enough time. I was looking at May Calls but I don’t think that is enough time either!! I need to be in this for the breakout, but I am just going to have to take a leap of faith on the timing.

March was the lowest IV on record for BIDU, so even a long dated straddle/strangle makes sense

JMHO, It’s wound tight but worst case scenario probably looks something like 2012 where it spends another year grinding downwards transitioning from a triangle to some kind of wedge.

Or perhaps something like what $F has been doing long term where it just drops out the low and then higher lows again and just makes a pattern that spends even longer consolidating.
But the upside of BIDU is it begins trending like 2009-2011.5 or 2013-2015 and it certainly could begin breaking out
If I had just bought common I’d be chilling with my stop at break even without a care in the world. Makes me wonder why I do this to myself.

The spring looked to be on 3/27 with a break of the lower end and recovery back into the range. Looks like a grind upward until it breaks. Friday was a great retest of the middle. I added today because of the decreasing volume on the slide down. Sellers seem exhausted.
Sold my May SNAP calls for a 30% loss. I just have no idea what this earnings report is going to do.
I’d say 175 is the place to take a shot, admit defeat around 165, maybe 160…but given how far along this pattern developed, feels like downside is the next move…especially if you tell me sentiment is highly bullish.
4/25-4/28 sure seemed like a failed breakout to me. Combined with the poor relative strength to the rest of the chinese web group, has me thinking about puts if it can drift back up to 182-ish.

Why not wait for the breakout to actually happen, paying due care for a false breakout in the first place? Setting stops at the right place would prevent unbearable losses.

sure if you’re trading the range, but who knows how long the pong fuckry will last. On the wedge’s breakout, I’d trade long above 190+allowance for fake out, short below 165+smaller allowance. If any move is confirmed I’ll add to it.
Buying the breakout would have yielded a loss last month…same risk you’d have taking an anticipatory approach.

June also looks like it hasn’t been a good month for them. Personally, I think the floor drops out on this fast, like 2015.

Closed out $cim puts for 800%. I think there’s a good shot at $17 at this point. But I’m expecting a bounce before expiry and I’ll reload the bounce.

Las move of the day was buying some $SAM calls. I’ve stared at this thing too damn long to not get some exposure on this retest.
And closed out my $ONCE for a break even on that pop this morning. In what turned out to be a gift based on a retrospectively poor entry. Well, I still think it was a good entry at the time, just didn’t work out. I will roll out a longer term position on this one if it finds the lower end of this consolidation. It’s still a bit wide to expect it to not take one more round trip, by my eye.

Been watching this thing setup for months. Had a thought – other than buying the strangle 200/150 end of year… potential for Google to be unblocked in china just a continuous overhang? I’m already long baba, jd, this market cap for BIDU seems small for what it represents in China
The CEO is leaning out the business hardcore right now. Selling off non-performing assets and businesses. He wants to focus on AI. I think that has kept investors on the fence, but is awesome long term.
That’s great info, also seems to be diving into driverless cars as well. Lost their AI head, but they’re optimistic. Nvidia CEO on yesterday’s call spoke at length on AI too, worth a listen or readover.
