Look you, I’m not named JakeGint out of some whim or queer circumstance. I chose that name because I’ve got a three generation relationship with the New York Giants and frankly, I’m nuts about professional (American) football.
Call it a weakness, call it folly, blame it on the encroaching general degeneracy of American youth culture. I don’t really give a damn, frankly. I’m going to the Superbowl.
Here at iBC, we’ve got Limey’s, we’ve got Frogs, we’ve got Canucks and we’ve got Wogs. I don’t care who you are, you’ve an affinity with some sports franchise, either directly or through some beloved male relative. It may be “Football” or even “futbol,” but that matters little.
So, in summary, just shut the hell up and indulge me, here.
The real question is who has the edge? Incredibly, Tom Coughlin, the much maligned head coach of the Giants, has a 4-1 record against the Genius Bill Belichick since they were both made head coaches. This is no small thing. Bill Belichick is probably the greatest NFL football coach that has ever walked the sidelines. Yes, he may even be the superior of Vince Lombardi, who played in a far simpler era.
And here’s a crazy aside — I love Bill Belichick. When I was a kid, he was the New York Giants Defensive Coordinator, and I prayed he’d be our head coach after Bill Parcells retired. Unfortunately, that fat bastid Parcells was too full of pride, and waited a full year to leave the Giants… just long enough to let Belichick leave to coach Cleveland. That was not coincidental, btw. Parcells knew Belly was the reason the Giants had won two Superbowl titles, and having him win another TEN Lombardi trophies with the Giants would have been a poor reflection on Parcell’s record. So he ended up in Cleveland and New England instead of where he belonged.
But that is all done, now, and we are enemies tomorrow. This saddens me but does not obfuscate the fact that Coach Coughlin has dominated Belly for years now.
Can that continue? I’ll leave you with some stats that might be of some use, and with the discussion. I will try to log in tomorrow at various times, but know that I am going “all in” tomorrow in Indianapolis, and will be extremely busy.
I am hoping for glory, but know that I am living on borrowed grace, no matter the denouement. I say “good day” to the loyal Patriots fans, but I will hold off on wishing you all good luck.
You have Tom Brady and Bill Belichick on your side, and I should think that is all the luck you will need.
My best to you all, my friends.

__________
5-star post.
Gwad Am Tom Brady. That laser beam throwing phucker.
We’ll need some luck and headstrong belief.
Defense will be key.
Let’s go G-I-A-N-T-S!
The law of averages says Pats win and win big.
Sorry Jake, as always, I’ll be on the other side of your trade, cheering on the dominant Brady.
Given your woeful rooting record (Mets, Jets, Titans) as of late, this actually calms my nervous stomach a jot.
Nevertheless, I have just petitioned the
AMA to have your license revoked.
____
It will be a better more entertaining game if the Giants win in my opinion. Lets hope for a good game and not a blowout.
Hello, Neat post. There’s an issue with your site in web explorer, would test this? IE nonetheless is the market chief and a big component to people will pass over your excellent writing due to this problem.
Jints beat the Packers and 49ers on the road. Patriots beat Denver and Baltimore at home.
Jints had a tougher road to the Bowl. I say they’ll win by 7+.
Have fun Jake and go Giants.
Win Giants, and then Canucks, and let me reclaim my rightful name. Amen.
The Giants are over confident/cocky and what’s with Coughlin letting his players make predictions and tweet before the game … recipe for disaster!
When the Pats win there will be talk of renaming the Vince Lombardi Trophy the Bill Belichick … LOL
Unfortunately, he is too grumpy.

Awesome Brotha! Be safe, have fun! I’m bettin’ on the Giants!
Have fun, Jake, and post/tweet from the game if you can.
Mrs. Anton is from Indy and a couple of family members are going to the game. Most are Giants fans, save her Dad, who is a coach. Born in RI, he’s pulling for the Pats.
Looks to me that your Giants have the edge this year.
Enjoy!
Sorry, Anton, read this too late. I was too “tight” to post or tweet. Had to concentrate on the game.
_____
Understood. For the Giants’ biggest fan, I’m sure last night was intense. Glad you could be there to see the win.
Staying up late here in Europe to watch the game. Go Patriots!
Hope you did not lose too much sleep! 😉
_______
Historic 96 yard drive by Patriots!
Followed up by another 80 yards and a record setting 15 consecutive passes by Brady … 17-9 … Go Pats … Where’s the parade? NY?
LOL.
Yup. You going?
_________
Second half. Pats up 17-9. Giants pressing.
Pics? How’s the crowd?
I know you must be egg-static , Sir (sic).
Congrats, indeud.
Fail … 3 pts … Ugh!
I’m quite amazed at the pro game. Those guys are incredibly good. I enjoy the college game as well for the enthusiasm and spirit. But those pro guys are just unreal.
That Manningham catch was just unbelievable… and highly uncharacteristic of him, up to now.
Prior to these playoffs, Manningham was known for his drops.
It’s like he and Welker switched uniforms.
______
Congratulations to the Giants for a well deserved victory. A game filled with tension right up until the final second.
No doubt. I was losing it.
__________
Ugh … we had our chance with passes dropped at the 20 by Welker and Branch … Congrats to the Giants, they made the plays to finish and we didn’t.
Thanks Tea. I don’t blame Welker or Branch (or even Brady) on those two drops.
Watching the recaps today and the Welker play was very difficult and had to be placed almost directly between the 3 defenders in Cover three.
Branch’s pass was tipped by Phillips about ten yards before it got to Branch.
My brother was wearing my Phillips jersey btw.
I cannot believe the idiocy of some of these Boston sportswriters excoriating Brady btw.
Gotta love Gisele’s quote, too.
___________
________
Hahaha … Ryan toasted the defense (they were soft all year and may have played one of their best of the season) and local news is playing up the Gisele miss-speak.
Boston Globe Online even has a “Who do you blame?” reader pole … Gisele, Tom, Bill, Welker, Branch, Gronkowski, the Defense or Bernard Pollard !
I’m surprised they got to the Superbowl and despite some miscues had a shot to win it. A disappointment for sure but we had nothing to lose with this raw and unpolished group. It will only get better unless Tom starts breaking down … the window is slowly closing.
My parents next door neighbor beat the super model’s husband, again.
Your parents live next to Mario Manningham?
Or do you mean East Rutherford?
________
You are way off, like on another planet. But it’s Eli I am talking about.
He lives in Hoboken. Are you saying you really ARE Frank Sinatra?
_______
Awesome game, the hoody is the greatest of all time (in my opinion), but coughlin is right up there (terribly underrated). He’s the type of coach I would want to play for.
Eli was stone cold, 30/40 – ridiculous. I hear Brady wears a fur-lined jockstrap – it showed tonight.
Congrats, enjoy the win!
I am not blaming Brady here, either. As much as I love Belly, he just has to give up that GM role!
___________
Blue wins. Again.
#nailedit
I figured D was gonna be there but didn’t know #4 was there…Did youze sit together?
Super win.
JackStrawfromWichita came down from Boston to escape enemy territory and to replicate our ’08 win.
Mission accomplished.
And then he left this morning with my wallet in his back pocket. Fucking guy…
Nice… Dirtkid involved?
How did #4 score superbowl tix?
no, local bar.
don’t know about #4 unless he took Mrs. Jake’s ticket.
He did. Mrs. Jake was nice enough to give up her ticket for #4.
I think
Wait til you guys see the video… you are going to cry… (with laughter)
_________
You talking about the Sinatra vid?
lol – you should send it to Le Doctuer.
How many celebratory beers were included in that rendition? Looked like you were channeling SR!
Ha!
#4 came back from the beer vendor with a fistful at the end of the third quarter saying “THEY SAID THEY WERE GOING TO CLOSE DOWN!”
lol… like it was a nationaly emergency or something.
_________
No way, he’ll post it.
_______
Lol…eggsacklee.
Very entertaining game, one of the best. Congrats to the Giants and their fans.
Congrats JG, that was a great game.
WHO DEY!
Thanks man. Great experience. I highly recommend it for the bucket list.
_____
This baby better be worth it… 😉
Yeah, we thought about you…
Well, next year in N’awlins… we’ll crash at RC’s.
_______
Congrats on the win Jake!!
