The Genius Max Shapira’s Greatest Creation
___________________
Certain people were a bit embarrassing today. Some of you, whom shall remain nameless, lost your composure and micturated on the couch in response to the first over-large pull back in the silver names in over a month. It was quite appalling.
Make no mistake, I am prepared to lay down the law. I must insist that if you are to remain a gentleman (or lady) of the Precious Metal Investment Set you shall comport yourselves at the highest levels of decorum, sang froid, and steely equanimity. If you become too annoying and whiny, I’m afraid we’ll have to usher you onto an ice floe and send you off to the deepest Antarctic.
I don’t know how many times I’ve told you on these pages that this bull is not an easy ride. I’ve also assured you that over time, the bumps will smooth out to extraordinary gains, and you will forget about the vague discomfort you felt at these zero-G space drops we’ve endured while indulging in the precious.
Gosh knows, these day I take my comfort from the fact that, while SLW may lose a dollar or two in a day, and maybe as much as $5 in a week, I purchased it originally at under $5 (and some under $3!).
But know this –even back in the day, when SLW was trading in the low single digits, it would lose a quarter, or even fifty cents in one fell swoop, and send my guts to the taffy pull whilst afflicting me with the greatest self doubts and personal recriminations. Please recognize that these conditions do not change for the precious metal investor, they are simply the way things are, and a cross that must be born by hearty folk on the road to sweet reward.
So buck up, and indulge in Max’s Sweetest Elixer — the Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage — perhaps the best “bang for your buck” Kentucky bourbon whiskey you will find in this Golden Age of Bourbon. It will certainly allay your nervous condition, and marry you to a longer term outlook that will serve you well on the Golden Highway of Sound Money returns.
My best to you, and I promise I will not be a stranger tomorrow.

This post has nothing to do with the stocks of your extreme aptitude, but rather your choice of bourbon. Granted, Evan Williams Single Barrel continues to garner high reviews (90-95pts), tasted next to Buffalo Trace, Blantons and Stranhan’s (Colorado Whiskey), it loses some of its lustre. Keep in mind that both Buffalo Trace and Blantons are produced by the same distiller. Also, to truly question Evan Williams Single Barrel lineage, their regular Bourbon sells for less than $10/750ml. Another non-congressional bourbon I would also suggest is High West Rendezvous as it has a mix of 6 yr old and 16 yr old rye whiskeys. Where bourbon is required to have at least 51% corn, the High West is heavy in rye, resulting in a spicier whiskey.
American whiskey is just beginning its true renaissance- water has long been a substantial factor upon which whiskeys were judged and decreed. From the lowlands of the river delta to the highlands of the Rocky mountains, water is also playing a significant part in the continued creation of American whiskeys. Now we are also questioning the method of the malting, as well as the grains that are used (likened to Scotch vs Irish vs American). Finally, the huge microbrew revolution of a decade ago is making its creative impact on the distillers of America.
Although Evan Williams Single Barrel carries a decent rating, there are other, more significant high quality bourbons one should consider first before purchasing the “value added” bourbon that is their Single Barrel.
“The stocks of your extreme aptitude” — now that is a feather worthy of Jake’s cap! I am also impressed by just how many consecutive non sequiturs can be stuffed inside a larger, more general non sequitur.
Stock golfer needs to attend to the recommondation, which was not for “the best” bourbon, but “the best bang for your buck.”
There are other far better bourbons, like Pappy 15, 20 and 23 year olds, but they come at a much higher price point. I would argue that this could be your “staple” bourbon which you can augment with special occasion tipples like Blanton’s, Pappy Van Winkle, the Special Edition Woodford Reserves, etc.
I don’t care for Buffalo Trace at all. Pure marketing. I do like those rye and wheat infused bourbons however, and agree on the spiciness.

I make runs down to Oaxaca and Jalisco to pick up bottles here and there of hand-crafted artisanal mezcals, raicillas, and sotols that taste wilder than anything you ever put your lips to, and run about USD $30 a bottle.
These same bottles, if they were commercially produced, would easily fetch $400 per bottle. Thing is, they are not commercially produced. They are limited edition and extremely hard to find. You have to know people in rural Mexico to find this stuff. I’ve been travelling there for more than 30 years.
I only mention this for the purpose of opening a few minds to the possibility that our Southern neighbors have been doing this far longer than we have, and they are better at it.
Most of the 12-year-old (in the barrel) mezcals I have in my collection taste better and are far more interesting than any scotch I’ve ever had. It’s a testament that the best things life are rarely ever advertised, and they are so foreign to most people that it’s useless trying to compare notes.
With all do respect, my experience says Buffalo Trace tastes like battery acid filtered through a Buffalo’s kidney. Indeud.
Yeah, it’s not that bad, but it’s just not that good for all the hoo ha about it.

Thanks Jake! I plan to hang tough.
I was able to accept the losses in SLW today–at least better that I have in the past, but it was a shock to go away from the screen for maybe an hour and see AGQ plunge about 15 dollars. How do you deal with that volatility? Do you let it run or keep a running stop on it? I had a 30 dollar gain on it, so am still in the green. I recall you saying your strategy was to only buy it on an upswing–but do you hold it for a length of time, or only for the strong upswings?. Mine was stopped out at 168, which left me with about half of my gain, but maybe I should have set a closer stop when there is no clear direction and protect profits? I notice the price of silver has recovered after PM, so maybe I didn’t need the stop after all… Comments?
I tend to give AGQ more lead to fluctuate as my gain increases. Sometimes you can get hurt that way, but not if you are “near certain” that a major move is under way. The other natural check is just keeping an eye on your position size. AGQ is about 5% of my portfolio right now. Admittedly, that’s a large number, but nothing compared to some I know who are in the blog-writing business and making it over 50% of their portfolio.

I don’t think I’ve used the word micturate since high school.
LOL. Why did you use it in high school?
_____
Latin. Need I say more?
Nope. All boys Catholic School, I presume?
Odd choice of new avatar. Isn’t that the Jim Carrey Fire Marshall Bill character?
__________
Indeud. I thought I’d light some things up.
Hey, i want to pick up some silver producer on this dip…if you had to choose just one at the moment, which would you recommend?
Let’s hope IAG rocks today after a pretty decent earnings report.
dude u ask the same shit everyday
get with the program
damn you chivo, are you tracking me?
Ok Chivo, you win this round. I did ask the question yesterday (“everyday” is a bit of an exaggeration don’t you think?), but i never got the answer. It took the good sir a while to respond to me and, though i checked many times, never saw the reply until just now.
SLW was the answer and the answer it shall be.
he also just wrote a post, and i know you’ve read it, since you’re responding to it, which comprised almost entirely of him saying, “relax on SLW, it’s been making these moves, etc, etc, i still love it like my firstborn.”
i wonder what his answer is? lol
now you are just piling on…
lo siento
Buy the metal. The stocks are sucking in comparison. What dip?
Itsa not a my faulta, I a have a problem with the micturating on a the couch
LOL. Atsa good a one.

Jake, no link to the magazine other than RobbReport.com which doesn’t let you look at the magazine other than the cover. If you are ever at a magazine rack soon that has the Robb Report issue with yellow ferrari on cover “car of the year 2011” flip thru it, you’ll find me, you’ll know it when you see it.
I’ll check around the office. I’m sure one of these bozos has a sub to it.
Is it the March issue?
_______
it is the issue with “car of the year 2011” written on cover. just came out yesterday
Quantum Leap?
yes
Nice bike. More mainstream, but I wanna get a ducati streetfighter for this summer 😀
“micturated” I love it when you make me look up words.
btw… I don’t know if “and send my guts to the taffy pull” is a JG original or not. I assume it is and I appreciate thought… because I bought a bunch more Silver related stuff on credit at the highest price possible of my life (I was only yet brewing in my mothers womb during the only time silver has been higher). Maybe born during similar prices when inflation adjusted. My mom (a Texan) tells me that I’m somehow related to the Hunt brothers. Maybe it’s in my blood.

The Hunt Brothers were old school bad ass. They were actually a pretty cool story until they tried to corner the silver market.
_____
Jake, are there any open computers in your office? Just gimme a holler, and I’m on the next flight to the Lou, with a bottle of pristine licor de maíz
Oh, and what is it you do?
_____
Ummmm, in comparison to you… I get coffee and watch… and of course, learn…
try this Jake, you can flip the pages in one of these links if you click on the mag cover.

Very, very impressive.
You are some kind of freaking Southern DaVinci, aren’t you? What next, a flying machine?
You ought to hook up w. LeFly… he’s moving to a town near you.
_________
next is something just as cool but more along the lines of being able to be in a small production run, all carbon fiber and aircraft aluminum, and all electric
Another cycle? Sounds rad.
Specially the electric part.
Impressive!
congrats sir – have loosely followed your work as you’ve posted here, it’s wonderful.
thanks kohai
Wow.
I hate those OCC bikes. Same old same old with different trinkets glued onto the bikes. Thats some real creativity. A front wheel drive bike with a badass look. Sweet.
I like how he redesigned the internal engineering, not just the aesthetics. Pretty fucking daVinci.
_________
Clicked the link expecting Keiser and got Shapira. Enjoyable twist!
What is Keiser?
_____
Max Keiser, a known silver bull.
Saw the title “Relax with Max”… was expecting a silver market reference of some sort, but bourbon is even better.
BTW — I didn’t announce here (but did in the PPT, btw), that I loaded up on IAG before earnings, in the form of 2k additional shares and then a large assload of June 20’s (calls).
I was holding my bag of taffy guts yesterday, but they blew away earnings, and now I am reveling.
_____
Lol. Good one.
Btw, our friend “pretzelguy” that we spoke of is looking more appealing after yesterday.
Told you you’d get that chance. Always do with those under $5 pinless grenades.
