Great, IMF is selling 191 tonnes (tons?) of gold to raise funds for lending. I don’t think it matters much in the long-term, though.
Why would they announce it after the US market close? Certainly not to get the best price for their gold in an illiquid market. Perhaps, to get a better price to buy for one of their cronies.
It will be but a blip. Not a chance it will mark any sort of top, au contraire …
They are not selling it all tomorrow, for one thing. They’ve been “announcing” this sale of their gold for literally two years now. They are either signalling or they are desperate for cash, or they are just stupid. Perhaps a mix of all three.
In any case, if their aim is knocking down the POG, they’re shouting at the tides.

My guess is they need the cash. I can’t imagine their finances are in tip-top shape after two years of global recession.
Isn’t it just the 2nd half of the 400 ton sale they approved a year or so ago? The first 200 went to India when they outbid China. Nothing new here. If nothing else, it could be a catalyst if it is placed at another central bank.

And yet, gold seems immune to this chicanery at a sip beneath $1,119.
There’s enough kabuki theater going on in these markets to fill out a road production of Madame Butterfly.

Currently $81.13 and gold finally taking it a bit in the shorts at $1,104.10 (low of $1,102.70).
Be interesting to see if it breaks below $1100 for any amount of time…
