I still don’t understand why it’s not a holiday in the US like it is in Canada.
Great men died fighting to keep our way of life. Their sacrifice deserves our honor.
It’s a bank/post office and bond market holiday in the States.
But you’re right… the vets deserve the whole long weekend thing as much as any of the others. I guess Memorial Day is similar….
The Brits and Canada just lost so damn many in WWI — I could see how it could become that much more iconic in the Commonwealth countries.

Everyone on base had the day off today (except those few standing watch). The Marines came in though, but only because our command gave us monday off instead. Marines do it right.

Not everyone in Canada gets the day off either. Banks, post office, and I believe most government branches were off, but not all. My kids had school yesterday, and my company was open for business. Yes, it truly sucks, and we should all get the day off to pay tribute.
