On the Important Matter of the SuperBowl

[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOCH5e2QCIU 450 300]

______________________

Look you, I’m not named JakeGint out of some whim or queer circumstance.  I chose that name because I’ve got a three generation relationship with the New York Giants and frankly, I’m nuts about professional (American) football.

Call it a weakness, call it folly, blame it on the encroaching general degeneracy of American youth culture.  I don’t really give a damn, frankly.  I’m going to the Superbowl.

Here at iBC, we’ve got Limey’s, we’ve got Frogs, we’ve got Canucks and we’ve got Wogs.  I don’t care who you are, you’ve an affinity with some sports franchise, either directly or through some beloved male relative.  It may be “Football” or even “futbol,” but that matters little.

So, in summary, just shut the hell up and indulge me, here.

The real question is who has the edge?  Incredibly, Tom Coughlin, the much maligned head coach of the Giants, has a 4-1 record against the Genius Bill Belichick since they were both made head coaches.  This is no small thing.  Bill Belichick is probably the greatest NFL football coach that has ever walked the sidelines.  Yes, he may even be the superior of Vince Lombardi, who played in a far simpler era.

And here’s a crazy aside — I love Bill Belichick.  When I was a kid, he was the New York Giants Defensive Coordinator, and   I prayed he’d be our head coach after Bill Parcells retired.  Unfortunately, that fat bastid Parcells was too full of pride, and waited a full year to leave the Giants… just long enough to let Belichick leave to coach Cleveland.  That was not coincidental, btw.  Parcells knew Belly was the reason the Giants had won two Superbowl titles, and having him win another TEN Lombardi trophies with the Giants would have been a poor reflection on Parcell’s record.  So he ended up in Cleveland and New England instead of where he belonged.

But that is all done, now, and we are enemies tomorrow.  This saddens me but does not obfuscate the fact that Coach Coughlin has dominated Belly for years now.

Can that continue?  I’ll leave you with some stats that might be of some use, and with the discussion.  I will try to log in tomorrow at various times, but know that I am going “all in” tomorrow in Indianapolis, and will be extremely busy.

I am hoping for glory, but know that I am living on borrowed grace, no matter the denouement.   I say “good day” to the loyal Patriots fans, but I will hold off on wishing you all good luck.

You have Tom Brady and Bill Belichick on your side, and I should think that is all the luck you will need.

My best to you all, my friends.

The Secret To Taking Out the Patriots Next Sunday?

_____________________________

Teahouse ain’t gonna like it, but…. what’s a fellah gonna do when he finds a graphic like that out on Twitter?

But hey, let’s put these Superbowl squabbles aside for now and bask in the glow of some relatively overbought, but still promising markets.  From yesterday, some of my bigs, including ANV, RGLD and AXU just did not want to give up their marches northward even with the brief spurt of the dollar and the commensurate minor shellacking of the precious metal commodity markets.  Heck, even SLW, AG and EXK, my silver darlings, did not give up much today, despite precipitously overbought conditions.

That leaves us with a bit of a problem, however, as we don’t want to enter or even add to these great weekly stories until we get a bit more of a blowoff.   This predicament is not wholly PM-restricted either, as  I am hoping for the same pullback in my recently relentless “Stock of the Year” pick, UPS, and my Seventh Samurai servant, MON, as well.

Luckily, I have another Samurai that has been taking a bit of a rest lo these last three trading days, and coincidentally, it happens to be my best performer of the year.  Yes ladies and gents, that odd post title did stand for something… the ubiquitous PBR, which hit exactly at that $32 resistance I mentioned when I first recc’ed it, and, like a good Brasilian trophy wife, has sold back in the most delicate manor.  Note how the 20-day has now met the 200-day EMA in this nascent recovery of 2012?

I think we may have one, and perhaps two more days of consolidation left in this girl from Ipanema, and I’m hoping for an additional pickup in the $29.25 area, perhaps tomorrow sometime.   I think earl is already starting to take up it’s part in the “liquidity wheel” along with gold and silver.  This darling will continue to benefit, as will we all.

My best to you.

Irony: The Pride of UMass Will Take on the Pats

____________________________

A late night pop-in from Giant fan land.  I am wondering how I’m going to pick stocks this next week or so with three lives deals on the broiler, and my New York Football Giants in the Superbowl.   The truth is, I’m probably going to start trimming here, and probably be more dormant than not.

Don’t get me wrong.  If the PM’s can hang in here, against the coming retracement of the overall early January move here, than I might even suggest some additions to AG or BAA or even AUY.

But for now, I’m going to trim sails and bask in a hard fought win versus the San Francisco Forty Niners and their NFL best defense.   There’s a lot to be said in the coming days about the next Superbowl game on February 5th.  The one pitting my Giants versus the New England Patriots — the teams (thought not the same team) they defeated 4 years ago in early 2008 to win the Giants’ third Superbowl trophy.   The Patriots will need little motivation to come hard in that game.  They’ve got a humiliating Super Bowl loss to get over, and they will try their damndest.

Luckily, we’ve got Eli in his Superman cape…. making it happen in the 4th quarter once again.  It should be fun.

As I mentioned, I will be trimming tomorrow for sure, and raising cash.  I will probably get up to 60-75%, with only some core holdings untouched.

My best to you all.

________________

Please don’t come looking for market advice today.  I am in Nirvana, without Kurt Cobain, after my Giants have destroyed the Green Bay Slackers in the Chilly Tundra of Green Bay.  This was despite a ridiculously bloated spread (disrespect), and the full participation of the referees for the Cheesehead Cause.

Thank you Hakeem, Eli, Victor, Ahmad, Osi, Justin and of course, Jay Pee Pee.  You gave me a great, if undeserved day today.

And let me just say, fifteen wins or not, if you have the worst defense in the league, that stuff is going to bite you in the ass sooner rather than later.  Especially in the playoffs.  Note also that the Saints — perhaps the best offense at home in the entire league, could not get it done against the best defense in the league.  Granted, they came damn close (sorry RC), but in the end, it’s defense that wins championships.

I would even go as far as to say that the Raven SHOULD beat the Pats next week, thanks to their dominant defense.  However, I won’t make that call because the Pats are coached by the greatest defensive mind in the National Football League, perhaps ever.  Belichik could construct a playoff-capable defense out of six fat crossing guards and a 100-meter ball of sticky packing twine.   Never, ever count him out.

I know that in my “Jakerodamus” picks thought the Giants would be “one and done” in the playoffs, but this is a brand new team I’m seeing here.  Will they continue to not make dumb mistakes?  Continue to make clutch catches, clutch runs and most important — clutch sacks?  I can envision it.  I really can.

I believe.

Thank you all for putting up with my obsessions.
