VSI – Vitamin Shoppe dropping barbells on GNC

If you’ve ever walked into a GNC and hated it this post if for you.  Whenever I’ve stepped foot inside a GNC there has always been some 20 year old puke who is hell bent on selling you the latest garbage protein you could careless about.  When I saw this place open up near me over two years ago I said I’d give it a shot.  I was very surprised how well it’s run and the products they have are great.  Win-Win.

The stock was $20 at this point and now has pumped itself to high of $55.  Looking at the weekly there’s nothing but free air up above.  As time goes on I’m looking for Vitamin Shoppe to send GNC home packing to lift 5lb pink dumbells in a darkened basement.  Throw this on your watchlist.

  1. Great overview. Just checked VSI’s prices on protein powder and they are competitive. Checked their other financi9al ratios: PE is a little high at 31 and Price to book is 4.4, but the PEG ratio (on expected earnings) is 1.2 which implies a stock about fairly valued. The low beta of 0.73 is also good.

  2. Nice info provided here. From a consumer stand point I have no idea why anyone would go to GNC for reasons you have stated and others. I have found some of the best prices through AMZN subscribe & save…great program there if what you want participates.

  3. Hey guys, thanks for the news on Vitamin shoppe. I didn’t knew that before. Thanks, Ann-Kathrin.
