I posted this before last fed meeting and it worked like a charm… here we go again!
The last 17 Fed meetings, 15 of those times the market has moved in the opposite direction the next day from the initial 2:15-4pm post fed decision. The average move of that next day is 2.22%.
Of the 15 days that did work. 12 of them gapped in your favor the next morning. The average gap was 1.15% (so about half the total gain for the day). The three mornings the gap didn’t go your way and those were 1.25%, .5% and .38% moves against you, however, they closed in your favor by 1.3%, 2.14% and 2.4%, respectively.

Excellent play yesterday CA – I missed it while I was watching my HCLS position sink in the mud. HCLS looks to me to be a supercharged JAZZ – which was the first biotech I bought too high at first but was a superball. HCLS is up 25% pre-market, the impact of a couple of weeks and 50K to sequence a human genome is mind-boggling too me and heralds an entirely new era in genomic research and therapies. Their machines sell for only a million a pop – my guess is they’ll be back ordered today.
Oh yeah, that was also a note to self not to make the same mistake three times….

yeah, I’m not there yet either on this one. I’m guessing we get over 1007 the shorts will squirm a bit more. I’m still holding half postions in ENER and NCS that are slightly underwater. If you’re watching shorts, the same guys shorting DRL probably tried again – it got squeezed again today but it was too fast and sketchy for me. Seems pretty risky to squeeze a stock that’s so cheap with so few shares out there.

keep a close watch – it’s been a sweet mistress for me but pretty cruel to others as it’s dropped like a stone. My only concern might be that most of the shorts from the monthly published numbers had to have gotten out last run based on the volume then – making these possibly all the same knuckleheads trying to get it back – but I don’t know how to tell what’s the current short numbers on it.

Would love to hear your read on the Fed Announcement effect as you described early today. You said the market moves opposite the following day to the initial reaction but what is the “initial” reaction? The first tick after, the first minute, hour, or rest of the day. As usually the market moved all over the place in the first few minutes but now looks to be trading down.
