Nothing new, except for the fact that the flag is ascending We’ve seen this before and it was bearish. We will be trading within the range today, at least for the open.

There’s a long post on breakout patterns a few weeks back, check the archives.
I will, if you have the link, please post here. Thanks
man, I’ve been trying to figure that out too, I think it has something to do with the gap/volume/ consolidation flag, but how he sees them so quickly is beyond me, I’m really looking forward to his training.
Indeed, my students will develop a well-trained eye.
word
I may have to save up for your class.
I sort of could tell the b/o pattern of CNO today. It popped out of the triangle but how could CA know about CNO before the pop to add to his watch list? Are you using some sort of scanning service?

are you expecting a rally tomorrow?
Funny. People are waiting form me to post swings.
Actually, I think I won’t. Too many folks getting into stuff and not knowing what to do.
CPF still looks good, are you getting back in?
good idea… it is pretty tough managing that many at once
your correct..but so what let them blow up..school of hard knocks..
im getting tired of posting stuff. It’s distracting, time consuming, and hard to maintain with the number of trades I make each day.
I notice whenever you post a buy, that stock jumps right afterward. I bet you have quite a number of followers. Please keep posting.
CA,,i bet it is time consuming..perhaps just post buys, and let the sheep figure out where to exit
but its so fucking FUN TO WATCH! i can’t follow you most of the time, but seriously it is a joyous thing to watch you roll… do whacha gotta and thanks for the roller coaster vista!
CA, as someone new to this, I use your post as examples and try to learn from them along with you detail post in the morning. I would be great if you still can post your stock picks. Just an FYI
or just post your watch list and let people decide for themselves..with one or two trades posted as you do it, when tim permits
ya man, just post your watch list everynight or whenever you feel like it, that would be extremely helpful!
CA — I’m still looking at LVLT … appears to be still in its ascending channel and above its 20MA (which I think it tends to follow most closely ).
BUT do you buy before earnings (tomorrow before open)? I guess that would mean today. Or do you wait?
Covered SCSS @ 1.87
CA, may I suggest posting trades on only one of the many stocks in your portfolio, or simply listing suggestions to watch, and let us figure the rest out. A scaled-back approach is better than you not posting any swing trades or daytrades at all, or burning yourself out posting everything you do.
I agree, scale back, don’t worry about posting your trades, especially if it’s causing you to lose track of stuff, we need you at your prime, I would suggest posting your SPX analysis (very helpful) and whenever you feel like it post what you’re watching, you’ve proven enough about what kind of cash you’re rolling in from your trades, but in the end just do what you do man!
Mo’ FOE in my charitable trust. Don’t really have one…
Loving these flags and triangles on the SPX. +4 points in the past half hour woo!
CA, if posting trades is hurting your trading, eff it. If you still have the desire but not the time, just post a watch list in the morning and allow people to make their own decisions regarding entry/exit. If you suddenly get the urge/time to show off, you can post a couple specifics to keep all of us in our place.
*Damnit, Cash. Read my mind. Or did I read yours? o.O
late day swing offering – PPHM
Bought CPF @ 2.32 for swing… looking at HAFC and SUF also
adding more @ 2.36
I booked intraday profit. Chart still looks very good. I may re enter for a swing trade tomorrow.
It is hurting my trading. I miss A LOT of shit at the open.
I will have post delayed trades at the open from now on if there are too many.
well, not actually “hurting”, but I am missing on some gains.
quick twit will do, CA 🙂
DRYS may resume its upwards trend from here. Does its look tasty?
I get alot of this:
“Keep posting your trades so I can learn from them”
When, in fact, I know what’s going on. You enter the trade, then you don’t know what you’re doing, then you post some question that I have no time to answer intra-day when shit is going crazy.
You need to have the knowledge first. And, you have to know your entries and exits before you even place a buy order. You learn first, then apply it. I have many educational articles in my archives if people bothered to read them.
true mate..your posting is what drives people here..handle anyway you believe is best.
haha…
good re-enactment of what probably occurs… true dat
I’m not an expert, i’m just ok compared to others on this blog (but better than a lot of you pikers)… but whenever I see CA or anyone else on this blog post a trade or a watch-stock, i check it on the daily, on the 30 min, and on the 5 min and in some cases, the weekly. i look at the patterns to try and see what CA or the other poster is thinking. I buy if I like the entry (lots of times it will be too late by now because it will already be up 8% and i don’t like to chase) and I also look for resistance levels or where I might sell. NEVER do I blindly buy the stock because CA did, and I strongly suggest that other readers keep away from blind buys as well. If you do the 2-3 minutes of work that I explained above, you should never have to ask CA what his target is, or whether or not he’s still in it or whether or not he “still likes it here”.
in the case of when it is too late for an entry after the initial run-up, I keep watch on the stock for consolidation after the initial run-up, and then look to enter when it is about to make a new high for the day, with a stop below the consolidation zone, all on the 5 min 2 day chart. this way you can catch the second breakout, which happens all the time.
This stuff is not that hard. only a few days of reading CA’s posts and trades (and back reading his educational posts), you should be able to do this without the need of babysitting and questions like “what’s your target.” If you notice, he never answers that question, so i’d stop asking
I’d also like to add that when i have time, i will screen stocks myself (usually just after the close) for trades tomorrow. i look for setups that people on this blog talk about all the time (especially Bull Flags) and put together my own watchlist with price alerts. you can do this for 30 minutes and come up with about 20 stocks to watch, 5 of which might break above your alert the next day. if it feels right, buy it. if you’re unsure, try posting a question on the blog. CA might not answer it, but one of the other readers might. But only do this to Confirm your thoughts or make you feel comfortable. you should be able to do it on your own most of the time.
i have a comment above that is “awaiting moderation” for some reason, which might clear up the confusion of my “i’d also like to add” comment
Thanks. And thats coming from a Man U fan.
Gunners, how do you scan for stocks with good set up? Dying to know
Thanks
i usually search in a few sectors that look bullish. I pick a price range (usually $1 – $10). Volume higher than 100k shares. usually add something like at least 5% above 50 day MA so that i know something is trending up. then i see how many stocks are in that criteria. If it is over 200, i’ll add something else just to trim it down. Then i’ll spend like 2 seconds on most charts on the daily, unless it looks good. If it looks good at first glance, i analyze it on other time frames. draw some lines. double check the health of the industry that it’s in. pick a “break out pending alert” price and set the alert. If it looks bad, i just go to the next chart.
I really don’t have that much of a science to it. there are so many stocks and so many setups, that sometimes i’ll only get to the F’s or something and i’ll already have too many to watch. I only use a stock screener so that i don’t have to look at so many charts. the actual criteria of the screen isn’t too important for me. I’m not a full time trader, so i’m usually comfortable with a few nice setups, and if none of them hit, i’ll just not trade that day. i would take a more serious approach if I was doing this full time. I keep a very small strike zone for setups that I like so that I don’t get out of control with positions. It is tough to daytrade breakouts if you have to go to a meeting or something like i do most days
Thanks Gunners, what do you use to scan stocks with your criteria? I use freestockcharts.com. I don’t trade full time either. I normally wake up early to trade. I have etrade on my iphone and often peep at it in meetings :).
Same here, when i see CA posts, I look at the chart first. If it is a pattern that I am not aware of, I don’t dare to buy. If it is something that i know of and I like, I jump in. I also look at resistance levels way back to determine exit point. I was close on CNO. I called $2.94, it hit $2.91.
We know you are busy so if our questions don’t get answered. We understand.
Best if you just post on your twitter. It is easier to look at.
Thanks CA
CA,
Book your gains. Post your trades if and when it suits you. Much can be learned from your trades after they happen. Thanks for having the archives available, will check these out.
Maybe I’m just too damn tired to do anything right now (like “think”). I’m taking a nap.
GMCR getting crushed
articles help, YES, but a good learning tool is experience. We learn from experiencing YOU buying and selling and making comments. Its like “on the job training”. We learn by watching our mentor at work.
I do the same stuff every single day. Not a joke – it’s all the same shit, but on different days.
CA, can you look at AEX.V?
risky I know, but what’s your opinion, buy, hold or sell?
hey CA – know what you’re talking about when you are missing trades because of posting
perhaps a chatbox type window (ex: simple machines forum uses) might be an alternative?
shorted RIMM, BAC, ICE, ANR
longed NOC
nice gains today 😉 hope all traded well
Bought some MRNA @ 1.83 in afterhours…. futures trending higher already
LOL. there does happen to be a lot more to futures market than 20 minutes…… Have fun over next 15.5 hours as it may trade further up or down. First twenty minutes means pretty much nothing unless its a substantial move. lol
Still drifting higher…. you must be short, hence your name
Market seems to be consolidating nicely here on lower volume and look to be forming bull flags right now. If you look at each of the past four closes, they all came at the top of the daily range, well off their lows. This has allowed the market to work off much of its overbought condition. Evidence points to a continuation of the rally.
Trade what you see, not what you think!!!
Just echoing what was said – unless I happened to have already seen the ticker and have a sense of the chart, or take enough time to look at it myself and like it, I never buy anyone’s post here – no matter who puts it down.
My exits tend to be sloppier than I’d like, but that’s the way it is if you can’t eyeball a bunch of realtime screens and are on a learning curve. I miss some huge wins – but there are plenty of losers posted that would suck someone dry if they were following blind and didn’t know when to bail.
PPHM…suggested long for today.
