In NY for the Weekend / “Q&A With CA”

I’ll be in NY all weekend at the Belmont Stakes (I do not gamble, btw) and in Manhattan all of Sunday. I will be back late that evening.

We can have another Q & A session, so leave your questions below. I will also analyze stocks if you list tickers and I will make everything available before Monday pre-market.

    I have a few questions:

1.Other than the MA’s, what are your other favorite indicators to use to find stocks that are BTFO?

2.After you enter a stock, how do you decide when to exit? Based on the candlestick? % drawdown? trailing stop? hard stop? MA? Mental stops bring in the whole aspect of emotions doesn’t it?

3.How do you size your positions? Is your risk a certain $ or % amount of your overall portfolio equity, such as 1-5% to make sure you don’t blow up?

4.How do you ensure you have an edge over others? remain disciplined and manage your risk?

Hope thats not too much. Thanks!

If in NYC, and if you’re not a murderer, you can e-mail me: JCLee84 @ hotmail.com (no spaces).

Also, check my last Q&A to see if you’re not asking me a repeat question. I won’t answer doubles.

If Fly doesnt meet up with you and at least take you out for a beer, he is a total asshole. All the money you have been making him lately thats the least he can do.

He has no class if not.

I think he lives in Bridgeport-which shouldnt take him that long to get into the city.

“If in NYC, and if you’re not a murderer, you can e-mail me: JCLee84 @ hotmail.com (no spaces).”

All the makings of a great movie – kidnap the stock kid and make him earn his freedom through egregious dollar stock gains.

Cut off 1 toe for every one that does not gain 10% or more in the first day. Cut off a finger for every one that does not gain 20% within a week.

Kidnappers are eventually foiled by CA’s total lack of need for sleep.

    Um, wanna meet up?

Since at this point, I’m not buying individual stocks, but the S&P, when you say, ” A breakout above 948 or a breakdown below 923 is technically significant to me,”Are you saying that above 948 is a continuation and below 923 is a breakdown?

Probably a stupid question.. but I’m just a newbie, who thus far has been dip buying and holding at least a day, which I have to do with my Profunds account. I am trying to figure out how a breakout works and how to play one.

    Any help appreciated!

    Thanks

    CA-

I am just up the river in Sing Sing, but I cannot come down to visit because of some “gun trouble” I had back in the seventies.

I’d appreciate a visit, however, as my dog has ordered it.

I know, I know – – you are probably saying to yourself- “LOL! Why should I obey orders from David’s dog?”

But it might interest you to know my dog is also Satan. So, you know, you better just get here, ASAP.

    Best,

    Hey CA,

1- Sometimes,I see a stock which has been trending up nicely for weeks.Seems if I wait for a pullback before buying,it continues to run up on me.However,if I jump in ,I end up buying at the top.How do you handle a situation like this?

2- I’ve read Edwards and McGee and they stress the need for the volume of a pattern to meet certain criteria along with price action. In reality,it seems to rarely play out this way. Do you give more weight to price action regardless of vol., or wait for vol. and price to both meet the criteria set by E-M.

(for example…an otherwise textbook H&S top where vol. increases for each rally rather than lessening on each sucessive rally)

3- Are you avoiding stocks who are heavily involved with the government or attract a lot of gov. attention such as banks, oil co.’s, insurance, housing, auto’s etc. Personally,I hate to risk money on something that can be affected by a comment made by a bureaucrat,or a descision made for political reasons rather than being based on sound business principles. What are your thoughts on this?

4- Any advice for someone who cannot sit at a computer all day and babysit their stocks?

5- Your thoughts on SLT, HIG,BHP,HME

I appreciate all the work you put in here, thanks.

    kush,

    I do…

Not sure if you are in the PPT but TRID evolved from a Biotech screen that Fly posted – somebody else said they like to look for stocks with cash value above market cap. I looked quickly and found TRID fit and the chart looked great.

Typical PPT community effort and we are up 10-15% so far.

    Hi CA,

1 – How long , on average, do you keep your positions? Is there a time of day that you prefer exiting positions?

2 – Out of all your picks, how often would you say you are correct. (I know this is a pretty high %age)

3 – Do you have an entry criteria (such as an indicator or other) that you use to scalp a few extra pennies on your entry price?

XOMA may run on the news out… we’ll see

    http://finance.yahoo.com/news/XOMA-052-Clinical-Results-pz-15457818.html?.v=1

yeah, it’s phase 1, but reads like there was some phase 2 data in there

“We continue to develop evidence supporting one of the most significant potential medical advances in decades — a move from insulin therapy to anti-inflammatory treatment of patients with Type 2 diabetes. Our results have provided not only the safety data that is typical in a Phase 1 trial but also encouraging signs of biological activity,” said Steven B. Engle, XOMA’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

Besides all common technical analysis questions asked by ppl above, I’d like to ask your opinion about XRM, CTIC, FTK, OCNF, OVTI. Also would like to ask what will happen to these penny stocks if general market suddenly pullback to 925 or even lower. thanks.

I have problems with making online payments to join things. I really will join the PPT eventually, I’m just not sure how and when.

To continue on what I was saying, then look for public companies in recently(3-6 months to present) hot sectors and play the earnings based on institutional and insider buying of those deemed fit(taken from a list of stocks in chosen sector, based on fundamentals[and obviously TA]).

Thank you in advance for your opinions.

Here’s a few random questions, what got you into stocks, how many followers do you have on twitter, what size of portfolio do you trade with, do you hold anything long term (dividend yielding stocks, gold, real estate, foreign currencies) or are you strictly dedicated to swing trades, you say that you read 100 books a year, which ones would you highly recommend (top ten maybe, you may have already listed these before), when’s your book coming out?

No doubt! ANPI is also re-rocketing. I’ve also put XOMA and INCY into my long term hold boxes. Love the science behind that stuff. These are essentially custom antibodies etc. – Obviously this type of biotech is the way forward and some of these firms will become the equivalent of big pharma (in times past) or bought.

ANPI – cash, product, approvals, massive market (cardio – and people living longer) with a low market cap. What’s not to love…getting pretty lucky on these recent “reasonable” longer term calls. I’ll be taking profits off the table on ANPI for the nth time – it suddenly became a very large part of the portfolio.

TC – my dad (87 and 100% in CD’s for the last 10 years – shear genious) says that taking profits is always something to be proud off. Good job on MITI. Seems most of these early launches I’ve been lucky to be a part of have an initial day euphoria, fade a bit, then re-rally even higher. My guess is that’s the pattern until it isn’t….
