I really just needed the option course cuz one of the markets I trade – Shanghai may open for options again soon, from what I heard and it would be good to get to know that market.

I HAVE to learn to be more patient with my gains. My 1.75 options are trading for $13 right now!
This likely will be my last post as I type this from the ledge of a tall building, somewhere on the west side of Los Angeles. Had I set the stops ta 0.30 instead of 0.20, the nice gain I had (from 0.60) which closed out at 2.60, would instead be worth today’s value, a little shy of 8.50 which likely would have beat the YOLO record for the year.
They say the jumping is easy, the hard part is the stopping…
If ever lessons on trade management were more appropriate, it’s in this *&^% market.

True – but if you have to strap in to an aircraft before market open for a 10 hour flight on a stock that can be volatile as all get out, you either throw a dart against the wall and place a limit order, or hope stops keep you from losing premium via evaporation. Obviously with the benefit of hindsight, I had plenty of time today to manage the exit on this trade.
…Dammit
Maybe buy more time if you can’t be there to manage it during market hours and just leave it? The excess time premium will act as a stop… but of course limit potential % gains.
One of the best things I started doing a while back to manage emotions was to not trade the first 30 minutes. I found I was making a lot of stupid decisions early in the day because I either ended up chasing an entry or getting shaken out of a perfectly good position. In addition to reducing my irrational decisions, it has the added benefit of 30 minutes more to sleep in, which is significant when you’re on the west coast.
Managing emotions in my opinion is the hardest part. I’ve looked at most of my “give-back” trades over the years and the majority of them were because I didn’t follow my trade plan, got emotional and let the “what if’s” creep in.
Hattery – totally agree. But this was, by design a YOLO play – high risk, high reward. And it speaks volumes that in here, we WHINE about ONLY a 400 percent return. LOL

I brought up PNRA a week or so ago – it certainly has the ability to put on ‘da moves – I’ll put it on my “active list as well” – but as you well know, entry is everything !
At first glance however, I would target my entry at (say) 176.25 to 176.50. In fact, you could put in the orders now and hope for a fill in the next 1-3 days.
Picked up YGE here $6 for a nice price. Hope it’s not broken looks like buyers stepping in at $4.79

What’s everyone think of solar this morning? I’m bleeding bad in JASO and YGE. I can decide if thesis is broken.
Two different takes on JASO:
With JA Solar Holdings Co., Ltd. (ADR)(NASDAQ:JASO) shares having tripled from their April lows going into the company’s Q3 report, investors aren’t in a forgiving mood over its EPS miss, even though it’s accompanied by a revenue beat and 500.2MW of cell/module shipments (beating guidance of 450MW-470MW).A 37% Q/Q increase in opex to $37.5M (blamed partly on a $7.5M accounts receivable provision) had much to do with the EPS miss. JA is guiding for Q4 cell/module shipments of 500MW-550MW, and has upped its full-year shipment guidance to 1.9GW-1.95GW.Like many peers, JA is seeing steadily rising gross margins. Q3 GM was 11.3%, up from 8.1% in Q2 and -5.9% a year ago. China accounted for 38.7% of shipments, other parts of Asia-Pac 39.3%. Europe’s share dove to 9.3% from Q2’s 19.7%, while the Americas rose to 10.7% from 7.9%. Module shipments to the U.S. more than tripled Q/Q. Chinese and Japanese demand are also said to be healthy. JA ended Q3 with $401.1M in cash/equivalents, and $628.1M in debt.
Morningstar on JASO:
A rising tide lifts all boats, and JA Solar (JASO) has seen results improve of late: in the third quarter, gross margin was 11.3%, up from 8.3% the prior quarter. Although cell and module prices aren’t rising, they have finally stabilized, meaning profitability is likely to improve further in the short term.
That said, JA Solar remains a step behind the likes of of Trina, Yingli, and Jinko in its profitability, and we don’t believe this is likely to change anytime soon. Further, the company’s sales base is much smaller than its lower-cost peers, being almost half that of Trina and Yingli. This means the company has less operating leverage, making it much harder to return to profitability at the bottom line. Although we think operating breakeven is achievable in 2014, we believe JA Solar will struggle to post a net profit for at least the next few quarters. Our fair value estimate and moat ratings are unchanged.
Really good stuff there lanforce. I’ve been reading about 3 new projects or so in the last month, so things sound like they are improving. These solars just do so much in packs though, that I wonder if industry moves will determine its stock price more than anything else. Stuck in limbo here.
Start watching the leaders – when the sector is hot, it’s really hot. If you look at a 3 month chart for (say) FSLR, you will see what a rocky ride that profitable trade ended up being. The real question for most of us is whether the market re-focuses on solar before the 21st.

I was under the impression that when you entered an option trade, it would be posted in here. Time after time I’ve been frustrated to learn of a trade in the AH session. Now it appears that I may not be using this resource correctly. If I want real time trade notifications, should I be in the room instead of AH ?
I say this because QiHU was on my list for entry today – in fact I was just getting ready to post a “what do you think” message here about it (as well as YGE, FSlr, TWTR, and PXD).
