No, this week the only NFL story worth discussing is that of the incredible young man from Austin, Tejas, who plays for the Cajun Fried Steak Flavoured N’Awlins Saints, Drew Breezey-Brees-ieaux. Tonight, in somewhat karma-challenging fashion, he broke Dan Marino’s single season passing yardage record of 5,084 yards by three yards by repeatedly ramming the ball down the throats of an overmatched Atlanta Falcons defense.
Even though they were ahead by almost 30 points, Brees kept throwing and kept trying to stay out on the field. For the record, I think this was an incredibly poor showing on the part of head coach Sean Payton (former Giant offensive coordinator, I should mention). After all, the Saints will have to play the Falcons twice a year from now until the league changes the makeup of the conferences. Does he think his team is going to be this dominant forever?
I don’t blame Brees, of course, as he wanted that record at home where he could share it with the fans who’ve waited the for the near end of forever for a moment like this… for a player like this. But Payton should have shown some maturity here. I think that kind of scoreboard abuse reflects poorly on his judgment and on the organization. It’s the kind of thing I’d expect from a Rex Ryan, but not from someone who came out of the Giant organization.
Whatever, it’s done and the Saints will have to deal with that issue next year, or possibly in the playoffs if they see Atlanta again. Tonight is Brees’s night, and he deserves a golden football, dipped in chocolate and plated in silver. Good for him and for the good (and loyal) people of N’Awlins.
Tomorrow… my “best pick” for 2012. A golden lollipop dipped in chocolate and swaddled in caramel for the reader that guesses correuctly.

RANT ALERT: The record really is not that impressive these days. The NFL has made it clear that they do not want to see defense. It is nearly impossible to hit the QB or his WRs without drawing a flag. How many times have you seen the Steelers or Ravens get a stop on 3rd and long only to see a late flag fly across the field for some bullshit “hitting a defenseless WR” penalty? They’ve rendered defenses useless. Brady will also break the record, then Rodgers. Then next season, they will all break it again and they won’t bother doing an on field ceremony. 6000 yards will be the norm soon. USFL and CFL stats will look like child’s play. They’ve changed the game way too much. The Mel Blount Rule was one thing, now if you don’t throw for 4000 yards it’s a weak season. Can you imagine the 85 Bears playing under these circumstances? They would break the Raiders’ penalty records. Rant over. Sorry. Your stock of 2012 will be RBY.

I am looking at it completely clinically, as I’m not a Flackons (sic) fan at all.
I’m just saying, you do the “sportsmanlike” thing if you want to maintain respect. You put it in someone’s face so you can achieve a record at home, you risk some serious animosity.

Silver analyst Ted Butler had his weekend commentary for his paying subscribers on Saturday…and here are a couple of free paragraphs…
“In silver, the total commercial net short position plunged by 5,500 contracts to 14,800 contracts, its lowest level in 8 or 9 years. The raptors (the smaller commercials away from the big 8) accounted for almost 4,000 contracts of the commercial buying, increasing their net long position to almost 21,000 contracts, close to the highest level in years. The big 4 (read JPMorgan) reduced their net short position by 1,800 contracts to around 28,000 contracts, the lowest net short position for the big 4 in my personal records. I’m sticking to my 13,000 contract net short position guess for JPMorgan, the lowest since the Bear Stearns acquisition. Certainly, JPMorgan is in position to reduce its net short position further on a price rally in my opinion. The question remains if they will sell on higher prices.”
“The real interesting feature of this current report was who the silver sellers were in the reporting week, since the raptors and the big 4 were the standout buyers. The sellers were the speculators, of course, but the spec selling was mostly new tech fund short selling, rather than the long liquidation that it had been up until this week. In other words, the commercials were successful in luring new speculative short sellers into silver. Normally this is a highly bullish development, as tech fund speculators on the short side of silver are prone to run quickly if prices start to rise. If the silver COT market structure was spectacularly bullish before the report, as I have been proclaiming, it is much more bullish now. I know that the silver price action stinks, but it stinks for the sole reason of tricking speculators into selling so that the commercials can buy. If the silver market was already locked and loaded to the upside before this repor t; new weapons have been added to the arsenal for higher prices.”

Indeed. I never thought I’d be able to buy a 10oz bar under $300, yet here we are. I put my meager earnings into purchasing a 10oz bar each month. Looks like I might be able to buy another at $220 soon.
It’s interesting that every shop, online or not, has sold out of silver coins and bullion. As the price goes down the “out of stock” notices get more prominent.
I’d rather take some near term pain than hold fiat. I mean Obama is asking for another $1.2 trillion from Congress and they are going to give it to him without fanfare. Hell just go ahead and give him $100 trillion and be done with it. $14, $100 trillion. None of it will ever be paid back. And people continue to believe in the currency, government and economy!?

I buy more silver as it goes lower. Maybe I’ll feel like a tool when it reaches $24 or $21, or $17. Hell some says it will retreat all the way to $5 again. Whatever.
