It’s strange that with the market bouncing, the current leading sector, the education sector, looked weak on a nearly +300 point day on the Dow. Those stocks include DV, APEI, and STRA. I’m willing to buy the dip there.
Add to the watchlist! Some stocks that are up, and have nice charts, and improving volume are:
AAON
THOR
AFAM
ACM
INT
SNDA
AXYS
Right now, volume trumps investor sentiment (VIX), so use that as one of your main criteria. And because volume is a strong technical indicator, I’ll give you The PPT‘s hybrid scores for these stocks in my watchlist.
Day-tradable stocks for Tuesday:
- FDX- cut 09 EPS oulook to 3.50 – 4.75 versus 5.15
- TXI- cut guidance
- NSM – missed on revenues, 7 cents
- CNW lowered guidance, talks of job cuts
- DHR lowered guidance
- HRB- Missed on sales.

Good luck! Better keep your finger on the “sell” trigger.
Divergence today on the major indexes. Careful out there!
More energy divergence, well, sort of:
Oil/gas is up … solars are down.
UP: GMXR, HK, CLR
DOWN: FSLR, SPWRA, JASO
All the fun is in the shippers…
DRYS, wow. +40%
What about the move in DRYS yesterday? I think it was up 90% or something.
Possible head and shoulders forming on XLF, SPX on the 5 or 10 minutes charts. Something to watch out for here. Yesterday’s gap needs to hold in my opinion.
thanx mac. keeping an eye on the XLF and SPX. its funny how the SPX is down and the Vix is down too. strange strange day. we’re setting up for another big move, but waiting for Vix to trickle down more.
Hey Gio, you use Tradestation as your broker, correct? How do you like it? I am thinking of switching, currently I am with Thinkorswim. I like everything on TOS except for the fact that I cannot short shares, foreign (DRYS, SQM, BIDU) and ultra ETFS (SKF, FXP).
Sia… i only used Tradestation briefly, so I’m not sure of its features. I currently have Scottrade, and use their Elite program for trading. I can ask on Twitter if you want.
I can’t believe TOS doesn’t let you short those securities! It’s too bad on the inverseETFs, because they were great shorts last month. Generally, Scottrade has a lot of shares to short versus those deep-discount brokers/active trading brokers… probably because not to many people day-trade there. idk.
Wow, I had no idea Scottrade would let you short ultra ETFs. I just tried it on my old account there (through the web, not the Elite platform) and got a “Currently, there are no shares of SKF available for shorting. Please call your local branch.”, but it works for FXP, EEM, not for DRYS, but yes for TBSI, which I see you are profiting off of! Also, apparently you can short the 3x funds too, FAZ, FAS, ERX, ERY (which are all a no go for TOS).
Thanks for the feedback.
Yup. i’ve shorted SKF, FXP, EEV, ERX … too many. I’m staying away from those for now, long or short.
Thanks for joining us on StockTwits. I’m short TBSI, because DRYS is too difficult to short, and like u said, no shares left anyway. lol.
watching…
One last question, the reviews here http://elitetrader.com/br/?action=view&R_FirmID=185 show that there is a lot of slippage, I am not sure if this is people using the web interface or the elite software, but have you had any problems, slippage or otherwise?
Slippage? what is this, a condom? Not sure what that means, but based on some of those reviews, probably the lag in a market order? I think that’s happened maybe a few times, only once did I get a bad market order that irritated me, and maybe a few times they gave me better entries. Ha.
One thing I do notice, is that when volume picks up in the market, the software uses up a lot more RAM, and that can slow down your system. It’s so weird. LOL! So, just be careful… you’ll need a pretty powerful computer to run Elite, especially if you’re running it on Vista.
If you can’t get Elite, then don’t use Scottrade. Other then that, its good enough. not fancy like Telecharts, but I do like the “momentum charts” they have… pretty close to Telecharts BOP indicator.
+12% on TBSI day-trade short. Smoking it on StockTwits!
