It’s a P.M. Dawn

Whatever happened to gay rap anyway?

Today was kind of interesting, no? False alarm breakouts all over, and almost none of them held…

Save for the PM miners of course. Sort of like a… a… PM Dawn, no? I took my cue off the Baby $HUI earlier today, as it had gracefully touched the bottom of it’s trading channel and then sprung up like a coked out stallion loose in the mare barn.  True, it sold off some at the end of the day after that initial hop up.. but I still like the pin action.  Note:

Despite the long wick in that last candle, I like how there’s still lots of room to run on the RSI and the other stochs.   This puts me in the mind that we are seeing a genuine handle breakout here.   On this action, I doubled up on my XRA and BAA positions, as noted in The PPT today, right before lunch.  I also added to EXK, AG, GDXJ and SIL.   I even bought some more RGLD, just to add to that pile.

Some other nice movers today that I own, but did not add too (much to my chagrin) included AXU, ANV, AUQ, AUY,GSS, NUGT, IAG, NXG, etc.  Keep an eye on these for further developments tomorrow.

As I type, the dollar is below $77, Gold is well over $1,810 and silver is over $40, indicating the $HUI is steering us in the right direction.   Enjoy tomorrow, as I will be “road-bound” again, and checking in from remote airport locations & scruffy hotel bar rooms.

My best to you all.

Never Sell Crappy Juniors

BOSmokin

_______________________________________
How many times have I told you? You never, ever sell your crappy juniors, no matter how crappily they’ve been performing and lying on the ground like so much offal shoveled out of the stomach from a slaughtered steer.

Case in point… crappy old Northgate Minerals NXG for you in the ADHD crowd — was bought out by Aurico Minerals today (AUQ). I have had NXG since the days when I told you all to buy “the three N’s,” or NG, NGD and NXG. Guess which one was the laggard of those three? Sure, it was crappy old NXG. But guess what? Crappy, poor performing juniors get bought out in bull markets. It’s uncanny.

Note in this weekly chart how we’ve been consolidating for 20-something months?  Something was going to come out of this saucer… and in a bull market did you really think it was going to be a breakdown?  That would be “betting on the silly.”  Never a high percentage play:

And here’s the bonus move..  AUQ, the acquiror got beagle-slapped today.  With two beagles, even.

I know you are not going to believe me, but I actually own none of this stock at this time.  Why, I am not sure, because when I’d read the news today I was chagrined to think that although I was “winning” 28% in my NXG position, I was also losing 18.5% in my corresponding AUQ position.  But then, saints preserve us (and they do), I found out that I had zero AUQ in my system.  I am going to have to research my notes to find out why I do not.  Perhaps I toe-dipped and had a stop or something.  Truly, I do not know.

That leads to another serendipity, however…. Not a long while ago I posted the below chart on AUQ with a proposed entry.  I give you that chart with no revisions from the last time I drew it up.    See anything interesting?

Goodbye to All That

Graves

______________________________________

I made good on my threats today, and took everything down to the 30% level on my personal accounts.

I was up an average of almost 5% across a number of different portfolios and I finally said “enough is enough.”   I am keeping 30% invested, with the equal expectation that we could hit a precipitous downdraft in the precious metal sector at any time, just as we could shoot past $2,000 gold in an eye-blink.

I care no more, as at this point risk avoidance has become very important to me.  If that means I miss the next $200 in gold on 70% of my portfolio, well so be it.   It’s very possible we could see a break past $50 in silver as well, and again, I’ll have no nonsense from any of you about it.   Really, I mean it.  Just shut up now.

And yes, that means I sold large chunks of AAU, AG, AUY, ANV, EGO, EXK, GDX, GDXJ, GG, MVG, NG, NGD, NXG, PAAS, RGLD, SIL and even beloved SLW.

And I blew out the rest of my NUGT as well.

And no, I am not abandoning the PM’s as a theme now, and won’t abandon them should they continue to skyrocket in flight to many more afternoon delights this late summer.   I am willing to wait for them, however, and to examine “other areas” whilst they frolic about like mad sturgeon on lady’s night at the Aquarium.

One of those “other areas” includes my old friend, Mr. Skiffles — SKF.  Along with his rebrobrate alchoholic brother, FAZ-tard, I believe Mr. Skiffles will be getting some nice exercise this second half of the year.  One of the reasons is the behavior of BAC, and now, most recently, the troubles of GS, and it’s Waspy rival MS.

Another is the critical structural problems of Europe erupting again like plague boils on the carcass of its major banks.  This is a contagion that may yet again bolt across the Atlantic and may even explain the impolite selling vigor in some of our larger institutions.  Will the Fed be there to save their lying souls once again?

Too big to fail, you say?   Maybe, but while “fail” might rhyme with “bail,” I wouldn’t be too sure equity holders won’t be left holding an empty bucket this time around.  Be warned, friends, storms approach.

Peace be upon you.

The PM Stock of the Decade

flying pig award

______________________________

First, let me tell you that I am a happy and contented boy this evening. You know this PM game.  Heck, even Le Fly asks me at times how I deal with the convulsions of this lightly traded, lightly regarded sector.  Sometimes it’s not very easy, as you all know.

But the irony remains.   Despite the tremendous, gut-wrenching, teeth swallowing, soul-crushing volatility of this sector, it’s the only one to be in a bull phase over the last ten years.   True, we got a serious “blip” when the whole market folded in late 2008, but that was truly a liquidity-driven event,  separate from the fundamentals of the space.  What’s more, that down-draft was the trading opportunity of a lifetime.  I still own a good portion of the SLW I picked up under $3.00, and that was just one of the gems I found abandoned on the ground in January-February 2009.  You know the story of the Jacksonians from May of that year, when I first started blogging.   Those positions are up hundreds of percent, and I had bought them months before.

Enough idle boasting about the past.   We’re talking about good feelings today, but we’ve endured scars together too.   We’ve undergone a dreadful PM pullback, one that cost me over 15% of my portfolio value, even with cash-outs.  But I’ve been waiting, very patiently, because I had no doubt this bull was not over by any means.  And today I think we can say that at least in the near term, “the coast is clear” for further miner purchasing.   And I plan to make up for lost time as well.

First, let’s see the good news on our friend Baby $HUI:

Given that many of my “in-house” miners– Jacksonians and high flyers like EXK and AG have rocketed up on an RSI basis in the past few days, I think it may not be the best time to buy tomorrow.  This is true as well of my PM Stock of the Decade XG,  or Extorre Gold Mines. which was spun off from parent company Exeter Resources (XRA)  at the barely substantial price of $2. Yes, $2, back in late March of 2010.   Look at this beautiful company today, a scant 16 months later…

Look at the charts of the strongest Jacksonians and you will not even see the equal of XG.  It was the one precious metal stock in my entire portfolio that did not see a pullback of any substance over the last three months.   That in itself is significant, I believe.

In the meantime, do not be a horse’s ass and buy this tomorrow.  Clearly, it’s overbought, probably because it never got oversold, like it’s poor compadres.   I have indicated above the place where I’d like to add.  And yes, I already have a shitte tonne, but there’s always room for pie, right?

Most stuff is overbought here, but on the radar for tomorrow are some small jumpers — MGH, BRD, AUQ, NXG, CGU, AZK. I also added to my GPL and AXU hordes today.

Best to you all.

Raise High the Black Flagge!

Avast Ye Steam-punk Scalawags!
________________________________________

Looks like the bewigged and wedge-shoed scarlet coats of the Federal Admiralty have thrown down their first frilly gauntlet and taken a shot across our portside bow last evening with a cannon-load of “hot grape” called “quarter point discount rate increase,” in the less civilized quarters of New Orleans and other pirate dens.

Powdered pooftahs that they are, they are already begging our mercy come the morn as we swing our starboard cannon about to rake their pommy sides amid-ships.    Too late for them, and theirs, I’m afraid, as there’s gold in those Admiralty cargo holds and we mean to have it.

Let’s not get all a-sweat and a-lathered, me scurvy dogs.   The thesis has not changed and certainly the Fed is not going to take the “brave man’s step” of setting the Caribbean afire with rum-soaked English scrip whilst our Parliament (of Whores) continues to spend like grog-stupefied wainwrights on barrel-selling day.    No, maties, they seek to confound us with this Mary-move of callow authority.   No man can call his actions bold while pleading apology in the next breath!

If anything, said grape-shot toss was mere subtrafuge to cover for additional scrip production in yonder Admiralty’s subterranean printing gaols!  What will occupy the Admiralty’s cargo holds for years — baser and baser scrip — will be what ensures our golden Treasures worth!

So be not a-feared but rather emboldened by the tightness of Rear Admiral Bernanke’s wedgies, and the sagging of his pompadour.  Now is the time to press the hot cutlass to their throats and let roar with musket, grape and cannon.   The battle is near-won, me swabbies.   Let us not then quail at the size of the Admiralty’s frigates, but rather laugh at their frailty — they are made of paper, lads!

_______________________

This day I shall be indulging in all me favourites, but  most especially those in the silver Escudo doubloons, for the price of bonnie silver is racing back up even faster than that of gold.    To that end I shall be indulging in me favourite miners, Silver Wheaton Corp. (USA) [[SLW]] , [[EXK]] , [[SVM]] , [[PAAS]] and maybe even the worm-bitten dogs [[CDE]] and Hecla Mining Company [[HL]] .   [[AGQ]] is only for the traders, but it may boom off of any pullback here.

Don’t forget me favourite golds either, which number three — Allied Nevada Gold Corp. [[ANV]] , Eldorado Gold Corporation (USA) [[EGO]] and Royal Gold, Inc. [[RGLD]] .   Some dogs that may be opportunities thanks to yesterday’s scare off  could be New Gold Inc. (USA) [[NGD]] , Exeter Resource Corp. [[XRA]] , NovaGold Resources Inc. (USA) [[NG]] and Northgate Minerals Corporation (USA) [[NXG]] , along with Rubicon Minerals Corp. (USA) [[RBY]] and even [[BAA]] .  Of course [[GDX]] is a great purchase if you want a catch all.

I also think the Ag side will continue to stay hot, so any weakness in Monsanto Company [[MON]] , The Andersons, Inc. [[ANDE]] , The Mosaic Company [[MOS]] , and Potash Corp./Saskatchewan (USA) [[POT]] should be seen as an opportunity.  I will likely have more to say on this front.

Many of you may have seen I chose Cree, Inc. [[CREE]] as my March Madness pick (SLW is too volatile).   I like it and Veeco Instruments Inc. [[VECO]] as my two hottest tech names for the intermediate to long term (the only way I play).

Best to you all, my hearties, and if anything today — WATCH SILVER — something seems to be “up.”

Behold! C’est le Roi du Soleil

SunKing
Sun, Sun, Sun, Here He Comes…
_______________________________________

Today was golden, metaphorically and physically.  Aye, my purse weighs heavy tonight, good sir. They’ll be more to come, but let’s see what today’s action meant for one of favourite picks.  Today, I examine the daily Allied Nevada Gold Corp. [[ANV]] chart for some near term lessons and targets:

anvdaily1

What a difference a day makes, no?  One successful thrust and we are up and out of the consolidation zone once again, and ready to make a run at the early January highs ($16.50 area).   We may get a couple of pullbacks from here, but I think we will proceed to that stated goal relatively quickly before pausing to coil again.

Our friend Baby [[HUI]] is also showing signs of robust life, not two weeks after becoming as oversold as that index had been back in the dark days of November ’08.

hui_daily

Note how the MACD and the slow stochastic are only just turning up on this weekly chart?  It makes one want to touch one’s staggeringly huge bouffant, doesn’t it?

There’s a lot of run left in this move, I think.   Maybe we’ll even shoot past the recent highs of $520 in this cycle.   With the dollar continuing to flag, and the price of gold holding about $1,120 — I have all the confidence in the world.

Back in the here and now, I continue to like all the precious plays I named in yesterday’s post, and I also like the “N” team, NovaGold Resources Inc. (USA) [[NG]] , New Gold Inc. (USA) [[NGD]] and Northgate Minerals Corporation (USA) [[NXG]] .   My top picks continue to be in silver, and especially Silver Wheaton Corp. (USA) [[SLW]] and [[EXK]] .

I also like the action in my two tech favourites (sic) today, Cree, Inc. [[CREE]] and Veeco Instruments Inc. [[VECO]] .   I actually attended a venture capital presentation this afternoon on nanotechnology that blew my socks off.   This new company’s first major customer was Veeco.   I think that may be a sign, I dunno.

On the “other metals” area — the three T’s will be strong with steel ripping.   Don’t forget Thompson Creek Metals Company, Inc. [[TC]] , Teck Cominco Limited (USA) [[TCK]] , and Titanium Metals Corporation [[TIE]] , as well as RTI International Metals, Inc. [[RTI]] , which has moved nicely in the last year or so.

Finally, I would be remiss if I left off my two platinum blondes [[PAL]] and [[PTM]] .   Buy these and get a year’s subscription to Lady GaGa Magazine.   It won’t disappoint.

Your faithful servant in the Reign of the Sun King,

Jake.
