AVATAR in IMAX 3D

SEE IT!

NOW!

GO!

[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRdxXPV9GNQ 600 450]

Believe all the hype, boys and girls!  This movie is the fucking TREUTH [sic].

No, it is not the greatest story ever told.

No, it is not the most eloquently written script.

But by god…if it isn’t the most beautiful/immersive/extraordinary movie experience of all time!  And even Kanye West would agree with that statement.

$18/ticket seemed like highway robbery when I bought them 2 days ago…by the movie’s end, I would’ve gladly paid twice that much to see it again right away.

Remember when you saw dinosaurs walk in Jurrasic Park?  This is better.

Remember when you saw the T-1000 do all its tricks in T2?  This is better.

Remember when you saw the battles in the LotR trilogy?  This is better.

I dare you to bring up a special effects milestone from movie history…because AVATAR will blow it out of the water.  This is Star Wars for the next generation.  A classic story retold in the most spectacular way possible.

And unlike many of today’s SFX-fests (yes, I’m looking at you, Transformers), AVATAR contains a compelling story that, while predictable, keeps you invested emotionally.  The likeable Sam Worthington & the stunning Zoe Saldana carry the movie with surprising ease as the male & female leads…even when they present themselves to the audience as 10-foot blue-skinned giants.  You’ll cheer the good guys, boo the bad guys, get tears in your eyes at the appropriate moments, and may even applaud at the end of what seems like a short 3 hours.

And James Cameron proves that after 12 years and half a billion dollars, he is STILL…”King of the World.

Cheers, RC. It certainly exceeded all my expectation (although I tried hard to keep them in check beforehand…).

Sorry about your Saints. At least now they can concentrate on winning the Super Bowl instead of some undefeated meme.

It’s another ‘Evil white men steal the Indian’s land’ movie like Dances with Wolves or Bravehart.
No thanks despite the great effects.

Yes, the plot will be familiar if you’ve seen Dances with Wolves, Pocahontas, District 9, Cameron’s own The Abyss & Aliens (elements of each), etc. But, trust me, it will not matter. It’s a story that you’ve heard/seen umpteen times before…but NEVER in this way.

People will hate on the basic script and heavy-handed “message” because there’s nothing else to pick apart…the rest of the movie is absolutely flawless.

It’s an experience that is meant for the big screen. Sure, it’ll look awesome on Blu-ray on your home flatpanel…but that’s pico-projection compared to a 6-story tall IMAX screen in 3D.

I saw it in Imax 3d and was absolutely blown away. The story is simple and predictable, but that doesn’t mean that its one hell of a film that you want to pay another $14 to go see again.

Fine review, Peezy. Where did you see the flick? The IMAX at the Metreon in SF has become the fringe of punk-ass gangland after dark. Saw “Watchmen” there, tho.

Closer to my ‘hood is the Sundance Kabuki theater, which is showing “Avatar” in 3D sans IMAX. Pretty good theater, tho, as you can select seats and buy tix online. You can also buy alcohol-laden “Drinks” there, making your “Avatar” experience 4D.

Merry Christmas and all the best in Phoenix. Have inlaws there myself and that airport and its time-wasting car rental/return ritual always puts a little extra teeth-grinding into the trip for me.

Dude, the Metreon is thugged out. Saw a movie there not too long ago and I feared for my life walking back to the car afterwards. However, the bar at the W right near is a cool/hip hangout.

I saw it at the “local” Sac’to Esquire IMAX, which is nice. Not as nice as the one up in Seattle, at the Pacific Science Center…but in an excellent location, right close to all the good drink/food spots.

The Kabuki is probably my favorite SF movie theater. Go there several times a year, especially during the annual International Film Festival.
