Let’s see what you all think. I’ll soon post some quantifiable results of selling in May and going away vs. buy and hold.

Does Sell In May and Go Away Beat Buy and Hold?
Very durable and widespread anomaly – I vote yes.
Jay Kaeppel in his book Seasonal Stock Market Trends uses a buy on Oct 31 and a sell on the third trading day in May for 17 pct annual gains, albeit with a 30 pct drawdown along the way. He also uses MACD to adjust the timing. Sell in May is about number 40 of 50 seasonal patterns in his book.
Will be interesting to see your’s and others thoughts on actually following this strategy.
Neat book. I have to check it out.
I’ve been digging into this anomaly a little bit today. I think it is neat because there are several tweaks that can be made, like Kaeppel’s MACD, to improve it.
