SOL: A Recycled Solar Burrito

[[SOL]] Price 9.15

We have a bunch of solar companies reporting in the next few weeks so I decided to do a little research and find the best opportunity, should the group catch fire.

ReneSolar [[SOL]], [[LDK]] & [[WFR]] all manufacture solar wafers for solar modules. However, ReneSolar recycles silicon and supplies the product at discount prices, thus creating higher margins to its customers (JA Solar, Solarfun, & Suntech Power).

With [[JASO]] reporting on Wednesday, I will be watching [[SOL]]. With good volume, this one could make a run.

Here are a few facts:

  1. Trades on the London Exchange, and now trades on the NYSE as an ADR.
  2. When comparing P/E ratios, it is the cheapest.
  3. The stock has a small float of 10 mill, and can get moving quickly.
  4. Company reports on March 19th
  5. Video on SOL

Just something to watch.

SIGM: Stock of the Week

[[SIGM]] Price: 26.36

Before I get into this post, I wanted to let you know that I have been dead wrong on this stock in the past.

Sigma is involved with two fast growing markets:

  1. IPTV set-top box market for telcos– Verizon and AT&T are rolling out their new service very aggressively, and Sigma Designs is a big part of it.
  2. Blu-Ray DVD market– Now that Blu-Ray is the standard, expect shipment volumes to go up significantly in 2008.

The stock has been unfairly punished due to technical levels, and in my opinion, undervalued.

  • PEG Ratio: 0.37 (extremely cheap)

Current technicals:

The company reports on Wednesday so anything is possible, but I plan to get aggressive in the name.

Note: I noticed a bunch of retailers reporting, [[SCC]] seems like the best way to short the group according to Market-topology. Hat-tip to Caddy for pointing out the site.

Note II: A few solars are reporting, [[STP]] is your safest way to play the group.

Time to Buy Google?

[[GOOG]] Price 433.35

Everyone knows Google, and everyone uses Google, so why not own a piece of it?

Based on valuation, the stock is cheap and it’s now considered a value stock. It’s current multiple, meaning P/E ratio, is now less than it’s growth rate:

Current P/E: 32

Growth rate: 36%

PEG Ratio: 0.60 (less than 1 signals the stock is undervalued)

All of the information highlighted is enough for me to add to my position in Google, but the thing that really gets me excited is Android.

Android will allow users to create software for mobile phones sort of like the way Microsoft invented software for the computer. In my opinion, the cell phone is the new computer, so why not buy the next Microsoft.

Software development for mobile phones is in it’s infancy, and Google will have the competitive advantage when it takes off.

Check out this interesting article. The iPhone is already starting to attract software developers, and Eric Schmidt, the CEO of Google, sits on [[AAPL]] board, odd no? This trend will be huge and I am an big believer in it.

Google Android explained:

Take a look at Google’s chart since it’s IPO. The stock is currently sitting right at 50% retracement, will this act as support?
