I’m Outta Here!

I will be leaving this evening to Destin, FL to stay with my fiancee’s parents. However, should this storm move east, I will be headed to Tennessee with a few friends. Wish me luck.

Top pick: National-Oilwell Varco, Inc. [[NOV]]

Katrina Satellite

Here’s a satellite image of Katrina as it entered the gulf. Notice the formation of the eye at 0.38. Look how big the storm got as it entered the Gulf. Could we see the same thing three years later? Amazing Image:

Speaking of satellites, it has me thinking about [[GEOY]]. With everything going on today, I missed the Google ann GeoEye Inc. [[GEOY]] news. Gio has been all over this name (Click Here), I will be looking to add shares next week. Chart looks great:

The Important Matter of Hurricanes

I lived in Louisiana my whole life and have had my fair share of hurricanes. Growing up in New Orleans my family would always evacuate us in fear of what we saw during Katrina. As a kid I hated having to evacuate, I was the one who always wanted to stay home. If you sat on the interstate for 16 hours to make a 2 hour dive, then you know what I mean.

When Katrina hit, I thought I’d never see it, but everything my dad preached when I was a kid came true– water filled the city to rooftops. I was lucky enough to have moved on before the storm– to my present location Lafayette, LA. I housed a bunch of evacuees (including my family) and we had about as good of a time as one could imagine. It was horrible, seeing everyone lose it all.

Hindsight, it turned out great for some people. FEMA came through with free money, and it was like one big Christmas party– with people buying all sorts of egregious shit. Just about everyone I knew was insured, so they took the money, remodeled their house, and carried on.

I always thought this was a mistake. People should have been focused on starting over somewhere else. “A New Beginning.” Now, three years later to this day, they are faced with the same situation. (Why people wanted to rebuild in a bowl is beyond me)

If I had it my way, I wish the storm would just evaporate into the Gulf. Just last night I had to battle maniacs at Wal-Mart fighting for the last case of water. If I have to evacuate, I will sit in bumper to bumper traffic for hours. Let’s not forget if I stay, no power for a few days.

However there’s nothing I can do now, just sit and wait it out.

Most likely I will use this time to buy more National-Oilwell Varco, Inc. [[NOV]] & Valero Energy Corporation [[VLO]] , I already have everything else I need.

Quick Note: DOW Can’t break 11,700

A few seconds ago Fly mentioned he might be taking profits in his bank longs, I’ve decided to cash out of [[UYG]] .

Until the DOW trades and stays above 11,700, I’m cautious.
