AT&T Launches DIRECTV NOW Streaming TV Service

AT&T announced a brand new streaming TV solution today called DIRECTV NOW. As the name suggests, this is an initiative launched through their DIRECTV arm, but will be available to everyone starting November 30 for as little as $35 per month.

DIRECT TV now is very much like Playstation Vue or Sling TV in that you subscribe without contract to a set of channels that can be streamed. It’s another cut-the-cord TV service that works on a variety of platforms and through a variety of apps. Plans range from $35 per month up to $70 per month and with channel line-ups ranging from 60+ up to 120+.

What do you guys think? Is it officially time to cut the cord? I like what AT&T is doing here with DirecTV, I may even give it a shot. I’ve had enough of cox cable rapping my ass.

Here’s a daily chart of $T, which is now the owner of DirecTV:

I just wish there was an a la carte option. Other than First 48 and Lt. Joe Kenda, I’ve pretty much lost interest in the teevee…

If I just get internet and one of these $40 packages it almost ends up being the same as going with cable / fiber? I’m paying $120 right now for fios/tv/phone.

Ideal solution would be a la carte. As someone that used Vue for a good 6+ months, you’re still paying for channels you don’t want / use. For me it was more about sticking it to Cox after raising my rates yet again. It’s only when you threaten to leave when they give you more reasonable deals, and even then it’s an annual process that I was getting sick of. If Vue had TWCSN for my Lakers, I would have kept it. Downside was the service being tied to PSN, which sometimes gets taken down when miscreants think they’re making a statement with a DDoS against the auth servers. I really did like the cloud DVR though, which is seems like DirecTV Now will not have. Record as many shows as you like at a time, no storage limits or recording conflicts.

Ultimately, I think we’ll have to wait for some of the big tech companies before a la carte is offered. Keep waiting for Google, Netflix, Apple or Amazon to do it, but it seems like some of them are more interested in offering their own shows and bypassing traditional TV altogether. Unfortunately, that doesn’t work for sports. Although I’ve seen more and more of NBA live streams on youtube lately, but the quality is hit and miss.

Personally I think I would go back to Vue for the cloud DVR before I went with DirecTV Now.

I signed up- Directvnow much better than directv regular

    HBO cheaper
Service is 35 plus 10 so 45 with 2 premium channels

    cnbc and bloomberg all good
it all works well on apple tv
must have new apple tv and if you sign up for 3 months they give you that free
seemd way better than 109 per month
    so far happy
but setup was a hassle as tech support sucked- but they fixed it
