Elon Musk urges everyone to watch ‘Do You Trust This Computer?’ Before Sunday

Alright so I’ve gone through this movie three times, the first two of which had me in the clutches of anxiety, and a third where I came to terms with our inevitable fate.  AI lads, our 2018 Theme of The Year, is on the verge of consciousness and we have no idea what that means.

And that is okay.  It is quite likely we will need semiconductor brain implants if our species is to continue existing.  Totally fine.  The moral question of AI is presented exceptionally well in Blade Runner 2049 if you want some extracurricular homework.  In Do You Trust This Computer you are shaken out of the innocuous world of science fiction and brought up to speed with technology currently being unleashed without much oversight by actors like Google and Cambridge Analytica.

Elon Musk used his Instagram account to tell everyone they need to watch.  Therefore I, a faithful Diciple of Elon, am passing on the word.  Watch Do You Trust This Computer before it goes behind a paywall Sunday.

The type of AI Musk is theorizing “singularity” is unacheivable. We dont even understand our own brains yet, it would be impossible to reverse engineer them. Hes nuts. John McCarthy coined the term 60 years ago and the best we have is a computer “Watson” which can process data faster. Machines are not self aware. A real threat would be cloned genetic humans with cyborg features, which is what Musk wants. After all McCarthy didnt see the pc coming, but he saw the server. singularity might not happen for another 400 years. Musk needs to go back to “The Chinese room argument” and check his head. Do not trust Musk.

Our def’n of self-awareness is a psychological state. Machines may never achieve self-awareness; however, is self-awareness necessary for machines (AI) at all? I’d say no. We simply do not know. We do not even know if our present “reality” is not an AI simulation which leads to to circular reasoning. Humans are getting out of hand anyway and Mother nature has a way of dealing with excess. There will be a reset at some point.

No problem. Great link, and work however I wouldnt believe Elons hype. Hes a businessman. One small example: Wind energy is 900 percent more efficient than solar. What is the point of solar then? Fact Texas has the most wind generation electricity, neighboring states Arizona? It would make more sense to invest in GE based on Musks vision of saving the planet or whatever this goal of his is. He is doing nothing more than replacing one thing with another. I could go on and on about this guy, hes smart but inefficient. I could write a whole PHD disertation on how be really hasnt done anything that hasnt already been done and in fact hes not really solving any problems at all.
