Since I am starting off the year in good form, I am feeling like I ought to spread the love and the wealth for the New Year.
I had planned to do a multi-day crash course on portfolio management, position sizing, and general strategy adjustments for the New Year. I felt this may help people that have merely done only maintenance strokes to their portfolio in the last year, rather than ‘Taking a Trump” with the rest of us.
Either way, the barrier has been lifted next week, should you decide to stop by and listen to words of wisdom.
You’re welcome.

At first – I thought that was a picture from the Shawshank Redemption and then I realized it was a picture from the Shawshank Redemption.
That pic has a long history here at iBC.
Prison rape jokes. The one thing progressives can’t take away from us.
Amen.
$RF puts Friday afternoon. I will allow myself one more prior to the first earnings report, and then I’ll go up to 4 postions depending on how the response is. I.E. I’m not going to fight the market if they decide they won’t sell no matter what.
picked up some $W Feb puts on Friday – maybe it will get the weakness that OA was hoping for in $AMZN?
The overriding point was outperformance in beaten up retail…not so much Amazon weakness.
understood – I took it mostly because of the chart, my thinking was if we get lower prices this week, it might form the right shoulder on that small h&s.
PCLN – great recent earnings, 1600 before the Trump rotation from technology and gold stocks to bank and materials, might be good to go with NAZ at high.
Now that’s a bad day..

Since no one is posting today, here is a poker situation I found myself in over the weekend:
Playing 2-5NL, full table in SB. early position player raises to $15 mid position player raises to $65, which is a large raise for the table. All folds to me, sitting on AQ suited. Original raiser still has to act. Read on the initial raiser is nil as they have recently joined the table, second raiser is somewhat tight, but aggressive – consistently fires bets on all streets and have seen a variety of hands from him, but he plays in few hands. What do you do?
How deep is yr stack and raiser no 2?
If stack size isn’t that big you could give him action but AQ not a premium hand vs tight aggro guy 3 betting (maybe AK to 1010+). If you are both deep, it would be fold considering you have bad position and he is very aggro post flop.
I was sitting on $600, raiser 2 had $800.
Yeh that’s a fold. U hit yr Q or A you could lose a big chunk there. If you miss you are facing w continuation bet out of position.
Which is what I did – AQs looks really good, but can be easily dominated. They asked what I folded (because I thought about it for a minute or so) and I told them Ace-trash. They thought I said Ace-Jack and basically denigrated me for folding such a good hand….I knew I was at the right table then…..Ended +380 for 3 hours of play. I didn’t get to see their cards as the initial raiser folded, but pretty sure he had AK
Fold. AK, AA,KK is a pretty big part of tight person’s range, the EP could still reraise if you call but the big concern is that anything worse won’t continue if there’s Queen or Ace on the board if you flat, and anything worse probably won’t give action if you raise.
If you think he’ll keep firing on queen or ace board and the KK,AA,AK is a smaller portion of his range, then flat call and go the trap him on any top pair boards, plus check raise semibluff decent draws.
In my experience good aggro players know when to back off so my standard for trapping them is probably a little higher.
Table was such that straight up tight-ish play worked well without trying to trap. I ended up going against raiser 2 in a big pot and got him to fold on the river where he had me beat – I used a check raise and aggressive betting to get him off his marginal hand that was better than my marginal hand, but I was the raiser and had position in that hand – makes a huge difference
Some asset manager on CNBC said the following: “A record setting $100B flowed into the market following the US election.”
Probably some pain to be had here before more gain.
Did you do anything with your AMBA position yet? I find the pattern sloppy and shit’s starting to make me nervous.
added $COUP $GRMN $TEAM $YY – all calls
VEEV worth a gamble here.
Trimmed off 2/3 BIDU, BABA, SOHU, CTRP. Will reload on wkness. Added NTNX but one day later than I wanted.
Waited a day too long on DDD.
Near term pain trade down, longer term pain trade up?
