Does a Generic Price Pattern Exist? An Alternative Approach to Technical Analysis

Kim Man Lui and Lun Hu

Many technical price patterns in financial time series used as trading strategies are learned by traders’ astute observations on the movement of price vectors. The authors propose data mining techniques to explore relationships between price movements and price vectors automatically. One such relationship, candlestick patterns, was discovered by human observation. The authors studied three years of data from 42 Hong Kong Hang Seng Index composite stocks.By two-level clustering to deal with shape and scale of the daily price vector of a time series of a stock price, a time series is converted into a symbolic price sequence. The previous price trend and the next price trend on each trading day can be converted into two symbolic trend sequences. The authors then looked for correlations between the symbolic price sequence together with the previous trend sequence and the next price trend sequence. The result shows three patterns have statistical significance (p < 0.05) on only two out of 42 stocks and indicates that the discovered patterns for one stock may not be the same kind for others, meaning that there is no generic pattern for the two assets. The authors conclude that price patterns, if any, as reported in technical analysis literatures, should not be equally applicable to any time series of stock prices.

Documentary: Why in the World are They Spraying

So there has been a lot of conjecture over this topic. Many people still believe this is not occurring. I found this to be an interesting case study suggesting that this is not some tin foil hat story.

“Nothing happens unexpectedly, everything has an indication, we just have to observe the connections.” unknown

NASA Says Artic Sea Ice Shrinks to Smallest Size Ever Observed

“The Arctic Ocean’s ice cover has shrunk to the smallest size ever observed in the three decades NASA has monitored it, according to the U.S. agency.

The area of ocean covered by ice shrank to 1.58 million square miles (4.1 million square kilometers), or 27,000 square mile less than the 2007 previous record, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the U.S. National Snow and Ice Data Center in Boulder, Colorado, said today in a statement.”

Animals Are as Conscious and Aware as Humans, Scientists Say

  • An international group of prominent scientists supports the idea that animals are conscious and aware to the degree that humans are.
  • The list includes all mammals, birds and even some encephlopods.
  • The group says consciousness can emerge even in those animals that are very much unlike humans

Why Wood Pulp is World’s New Wonder Material

Is there a trade here?

THE hottest new material in town is light, strong and conducts electricity. What’s more, it’s been around a long, long time.

Nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC), which is produced by processing wood pulp, is being hailed as the latest wonder material. Japan-based Pioneer Electronics is applying it to the next generation of flexible electronic displays. IBM is using it to create components for computers. Even the US army is getting in on the act, using it to make lightweight body armour and ballistic glass.

To ramp up production, the US opened its first NCC factory in Madison, Wisconsin, on 26 July, marking the rise of what the US National Science Foundation predicts will become a $600 billion industry by 2020.

Documentary: The Great Global Warming Swindle

Cheers on your weekend!

The Great Global Warming Swindle caused controversy in the UK when it premiered on Channel 4. According to Martin Durkin’s documentary, the chief cause of climate change is not human activity but changes in radiation from the sun.

Some have called The Great Global Warming Swindle the definitive retort to Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth. Using a comprehensive range of evidence it’s claimed that warming over the past 300 years represents a natural recovery from a ‘little ice age’.

According to the program humans do have an effect on climate but it’s infinitesimally small compared with the vast natural forces which are constantly pushing global temperatures this way and that. From melting glaciers and rising sea levels, The Great Global Warming Swindle debunks the myths, and exposes what may well prove to be the darkest chapter in the history of mankind. According to a group of leading scientists brought together by documentary maker Martin Durkin everything you’ve ever been told about global warming is probably untrue. Just as we’ve begun to take it for granted that climate change is a man-made phenomenon, Durkin’s documentary slays the whole premise of global warming.

“Global warming has become a story of huge political significance; environmental activists using scare tactics to further their cause; scientists adding credence to secure billions of dollars in research money; politicians after headlines and a media happy to play along. No-one dares speak against it for risk of being unpopular, losing funds and jeopardizing careers.”

The Door to Hell: Take a look inside a giant hole in the desert which has been on fire for more than 40 YEARS

But this giant hole of fire in the heart of the Karakum Desert is not the aftermath of an attack on Earth, launched from outer space.

It is a crater made by geologists more than 40 years ago, and the flames within have been burning ever since.

Welcome to Derweze in Turkmenistan – or, as the locals have called it, ‘The Door to Hell’.

Scientists are discovering that electricity plays a more significant role in the universe than previously understood. The theory that has sprung from this new research is called the electric universe theory .

According to this theory:

  • The sun and stars are electrically charged
  • Planetary features, such as creators, are caused by electrical scarring, or super-lightening
  • Cosmic phenomena are electrical such as comet tails, galaxy formations, plumes from Enceladus

Electricity is present wherever plasma is present. This means that because the visible universe is 99.999% in a plasma state, magnetic and electrical fields surround virtually everything.

“Almost all cosmic plasmas that have been studied in detail seem to be penetrated by magnetic fields. The presence of the magnetic fields implies that considerable electric currents must exist in the cosmic plasmas. As has been stressed by Alfvén such currents often have a pronounced tendency to flow in relatively thin filamentary and sheet structures. Nearby examples of this are found in the ionosphere and magnetosphere of the Earth. In situ measurements show that currents here flow in a complex network of filaments and sheets. Also in more distant plasmas like the chromosphere and corona of the sun, the solar wind, and the interstellar medium we find thin structures in the form of filaments and sheets. There is strong evidence that many of these narrow structures are subject to the pinching action of electric currents,” says Per Carlqvist , Swedish plasma physicist of the Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, at the School of Electrical Engineering in the department of Space & Plasma Physics.

The sun, which is electrically charged , releases positive ions, estimated at 10 billion volts. As electrons enter the sun, they leave as positive ions. The sun’s positive charge acts as an anode in a plasma discharge, as is observed in laboratory tests on Earth.

This means the sun is powered by the electrical charges in the universe and not from elements within itself. The sun’s energy derives from the galactic environment as is hypothesized that all stars behave in this fashion.

The sun then becomes a focal point of the electromagnetic energy found in the universe and not a limited self-energizing ball of gases that are slowly burning themselves up. Because the universe has an endless amount of energy and all forces in the universe are electromagnetic in nature, the sun simply directs the electromagnetic energy in the universe toward our solar system. The effects of this are visible as the cosmological scientific communities.

Apparently, our understanding of the sun and its role is grossly misunderstood.

This theory would also assist in explaining why the solar system is heating up . All the planets are experiencing one form or another of “climate change”; as well as our own planet.
