The Euro Zone’s Trade Surplus Shrinks More Than Expected

“The euro region’s trade surplus narrowed more than economists estimated in February as increased demand for imported goods outpaced exports.

The surplus shrank to a seasonally adjusted 3.7 billion euros ($4.8 billion) from a revised 5.3 billion euros in January, the European Union’s statistics office in Luxembourg said today. Economists had forecast a drop to 5 billion euros, the median of eight projections in a Bloomberg News survey showed. Imports increased 3.5 percent in the month, while exports were up 2.4 percent….”

Warning: ‘FRIGGATRISKAIDEKAPHOBIA’

A funny expression coined for Fear of Friday the 13th.

As a side bar, i am long with no real hedge and have to be out of the office today. Typically on days like this the market goes against me pretty bad.

Source

“Friggatriskaidekaphobia is the title to Nomura’s Americas Morning Comment this morning. That’s perfect.

The word, of course, means fear of Friday the 13th.

It’s perfect since today is Friday the 13th, and there’s all kinds of bad stuff going on.

  • China’s GDP report registered a big miss.
  • North Korea fired off a rocket last night.
  • European markets are getting smashed.
  • Italian industrial production fell 0.7%.
  • UK PPI increased more than expected.
  • US futures are down,
  • Spanish CDS are at new highs.
  • The Spanish stock market is getting creamed.”

Bulls Go Ape Shit on the Bears

The markets got a lift from speculation that China will not have a hard landing as they report Q1 GDP tonight.

Of course we did reach a technical area, (1360 S&P,) where we could have a nice bounce from this years worse sell off of 4.4%. We are approaching the 50 day so there is question about follow through tomorrow; but why worry when the clam has your back.
