Why not?
Romney is bullish for stocks.
come on; the rally is about QE anticipation. the market stopped falling as soon as the clam was on the radar and as the world waited over the weekend for some kind of ECB printing.
You mean removing the union stranglehold on our economy is bearish?
Yea its all those working middle class people destroying the economy. #oxymoron
TJ, union pay, benefits, and retirement packages are lavish and unsustainable. They bankrupt the cities, counties, and states that have the unfortunate responsibility of paying them. It has nothing to do whatsoever with the middle class. Absolutely nothing. It has everything to do with unions confiscating dues from their workers, and then funneling those dues to elect more Democrats, who in turn allow the passage of more laws favorable to unions. If the unions were not parasites who strangle the very people who pay their lavish salaries and benefits, then we would not be having this conversation. If their TRUE purpose was to protect the worker, then they wouldn’t be pricing the worker out of the economy by making the legacy costs so high as to bankrupt the cites, towns, and states.
Are you confusing unions with union leadership? I agree its a terrible and corrupt edifice. Now please point to something in American politics that isn’t?
How about lobbyists that enable environmental and wage arbitrage? How about politicians who promise these things with no care for the consequences. The axe has to fall, but not just on the scapegoat.
I don’t disagree with you, I was just being ironic. Blame the unions all you want, it might alleviate some strain on states and municipalities to see benefits rolled back but you are kidding yourself if you think THAT is what will fix the structural problems in the economy.
Hmm. Don’t see anywhere where I said that getting rid of unions will “fix the structural problems in the economy.”
Sorry I inferred from “You mean removing the union stranglehold on our economy is bearish?”
Apologies for misconstruing what you were saying. Apparently it was just a cheap potshot anyways.
No problem. I agree there are a lot more problems than just the unions. But it is a good start to once again allow municipalities to balance their budgets without raising taxes or cutting services.
Best get after those school boards if that’s your hope
Oh and how about a living wage for the people. You know you can’t really live off minimum wage in most states: http://www.livingwage.geog.psu.edu/
Guess that’s irrelevant for an economic recovery.
TJ, you might do a little reading about the minimum wage and its deleterious effect on the economy. At best, the effect is mixed. There is a large amount of research that suggests it decreases employment, especially among african americans.
As for school boards, they have very little control over unions. The unions are much more powerful.
School boards, do however, have the ability to influence property taxes when they are short funding, either by voter initiatives or other methods.
In addition, I am well aware of the floor effects a minimum wage can have, leading to less than full employment but who the fuck wants to work when you still can’t buy food for your family?
I like the comments coming from Slick Willie, subtly undermining Obama. If the Clintons turn on Obama, he’s done. Maybe they want to set up Hitlary for the next election. I’ll take off my tinfoil hat now.
