The iconic Sahara Hotel & Casino is coming back as a redesigned and reconceived SLS Las Vegas that’s expected to open in 2014. Philippe Starck will do the interior design at what will become a resort with name-brand restaurants, clubs and more than 1,600 guest rooms and suites.
that is interesting. other than the landmark sign the sahara is a total dump. on the strip but really on it’s own at the north end. bad idea.
they closed it last May.
The story, last year, was “Hollywood Producers” intended to revamp The Sahara.
The “real story” is that zoning prevents casinos north of Sahara (the street).
With most of “the Srip” developed, it’s really south Strip that’s the future.
E.g. Son of Rio developments has indicators of interest cleared for at least two new major casinos there.
The LV City Council have too much of a constituency to let the last “north” section develop TOO fast.
FWIW.
