On a total side note, I know that some of y’all are stuck, ostrich in the sand, in beliefs that weren’t even correct in the gold standard days (like higher gov’t deficits lead to worse economy, and that people can save without gov’t deficits (which they can’t)), but that’s ok.
Buried in all that “austrian school” emotional (but rarely rational) economic mumbo jumbo are some really good points: like the strangling effect on small biz (which is the real driver of growth) of regulations and the tendency of government to mismanage their funds…

Over me being long about 200-250,000 shares of Nova Chemical in February 2009. Nova got bought out for $6/share on feb 23, 2009, it was trading at somewhere roughtly around 1.50 before that.
We’re talking less than a million bucks of profit (if memory serves me on how many shares I was long), and TWICE the government investigates. Some penny ante farm boy from the middle of nowhere, over making not even a million bucks on some trade that I have LITEARLLY dozens of emails between me, my old biz partner, and my broker discussing the pros and cons of. ITS NOT LIKE THE FEDS DON’T ALREADY HAVE ACCESS TO MY STUPID EMAILS FROM MY STUPID GMAIL ACCOUNT, and its NOT LIKE THEY DON’T ALREADY KNOW THIS IS ME POSTING THIS. For gods sake I’m sure they have a recording of ALL OF MY PHONE CONVOS.
But TWICE we’ve spent money to investigate me for making a measly million bucks. Maybe we can get the NSA and the CIA involved in this too, I mean, HOLY CRAP, clearly, farm boys from FUCKING IOWA, are getting all the insider information, I mean, i’m CLEARLY one of the insndiers on wall street, what with me posting maybe 40 blogs at one site and knowing, like, 8 people that work on wall street TOTAL.

But you guys can’t find Bernie Madoff, or catch the fact that the S&P downgrade was probably insider traded to the tune of $100B of profits in August, or that this action by the central banks was probably traded to the tune of at least 10B of profits? by people who knew?
