Awesome: Steve Jobs Was Always Kind to Me

“Hi, this is Steve. I really want my phone back.”

He wasn’t demanding. He was asking. And he was charming and he was funny. I was half-naked, just getting back from surfing, but I managed to keep my shit together.

this jobs love affair is really gay. homo intended. not a hater. but i did live in palo alto for a while. lets just say mr jobs was not universally loved or liked. in fact he was known as a pompous asshat.

back when my first successful biz was in its heyday, before I sold it, I was sitting in Minneapolis, staying at a hotel, that had a seafood reastaurant called “oceanair”.

In the restaurant I noticed a tall, very slender, brown haired guy walk up to a lady at the bar, he charmed her as smoothly as about anybody could, which in and of itself isn’t that big of a deal, except I noticed that the two dudes at the table next to me were staring intently.

He went to their table shortly thereafter, the lady left, and talked to them. A while later he went up, approached another girl, chatted her up, and again returend to his table.

Later, I asked him what he was up to, he replied that he was, for a living, a “girl getter teacher guy”, pickup artist he called himself or something. So we went to First Avenue (the club in mpls where Prince filmed Purple Rain). …

He asked about my biz, expressed jealously at the cashflow, I expressed jealously back that he spent his time chasing girls and GETTING PAID FOR IT while I budgeted my 9 free hours a week very carefully…

It was an ok time, he was an ok guy, but in all honesty he really wasn’t THAT charming, he was fine. Cool enough, but nobody that really made you think he could murder you on a good day. Maybe that was his secret.

He spoke of a time when he was a lowly limo driver, unable to get a date, before he became (per him) pickup guru of all of earth, the ultimate lady chaser man. lol. He once drove steve jobs, he described him as an absolute egotist and a completely condescending prick.

I’ve thought about that many times since, usually as I am admiring SJ’s genius, and wishing I was as able to contribute to the world.

Thats all there is to it, he never really gave great details of SJs social misbehavior, he just said the other people were incredibly deferential to SJ and SJ wasn’t too swell.

Never saw him again, but he did text me happy halloween that year. I, myself, never met SJ, so these opinions are not my own.

But it is an interesting memory.
