For sure Scavenger….Iceland should be in focus, but the powers that be would like to ignore the success of Iceland.
Eugenics is a uniquely “progressive” concept. Skinnying down of government is not.
One of the reasons you are seeing an increase in suicides is a result of the despair of a government dependent society after the government lets that society down.
If the people of Greece (and all the globe) could take one lesson from this, it’d be that the gov’t will ALWAYS let you down, but most certainly after a critical mass of the population becomes dependent upon it. If you’ve abandoned all other means of self sustenance in favor of government dependence, you are truly up Ess Creek without the proverbial paddle when that gov’t collapses.
Heck, let’s not pick on the gov’t here (although I love to) think about being dependent upon ANY single institution and how risky that plan is. Imagine even Wal Mart or the New York Public Library as your sole supports… even they might fail you at some critical point. This is why government must be small and our economy flexible, so people can encounter new opportunities at every juncture.
