U.S. Manufacturers Can Not Find Skilled Workers

The Obama administration and congress are pushing for manufacturers to hire, but they can not get he skilled workers needed. Jobs have gone from not needing any real skills to highly intricate skills needed.

Perhaps some targeted stimulus and companies could train people willing to learn, but can not afford to pay for education or take time off from that menial job paying the bills.

    BTE Technologies President Chuck Wetherington also told lawmakers his company had been unable to fill some positions.

    “My job is getting a bit more technical. There are some micro and macroeconomic issues. Occasionally we have to recruit from abroad. There is a mismatch between skills and workers,” said Wetherington.

    Meanwhile, outside the congressional committee room, BTE currently has only one job opening listed, and it isn’t a manufacturing position.

    If you really believe in market forces, Chuck and friends, the market is telling you that you need to pay more to get the people you want. You might even think about hiring some recent graduates and training them. Oh, and stop cutting state support for higher education while you are at it.
