2014…Perhaps Never

Perhaps we should have a direct stimulus into the citizens. Get rid of payroll taxes, get states to lower real estate taxes, how about a driving stimulus ? What about some assistance for sole props. and small biz llc ?

“The mixed signals regarding the economy’s health are taking a toll.

Americans are growing increasingly doubtful about direction of the US economy, according to the latest survey from business-advisory firm AlixPartners.

In fact, an increasing number, some 61 percent, say they don’t expect to return to their respective pre-recession lifestyles until the spring of 2014, if ever.

What’s worse, a full 10 percent said they expect they will never return to pre-recession spending.

That’s a more pessimistic view than last year, when those surveyed expected that they could be back to pre-recession spending levels by the middle of 2013.

“Americans continue to push their expectations for return to a pre-recession ‘normal’ further and further into the future—close enough for comfort, but far enough away to seem realistic,” said Fred Crawford, CEO of AlixPartners. “But as that happens, more and more it seems normal is actually where we are right now.”

I’d vote for any of those. Or all of those in combination.

Somehow, in and among all of the ruckus about wealth disparity and such in the US is lost the fact that the greatest ally to the wealth of the upper class over a long period of time is the prosperity of the middle class. Perhaps a rich man owns 3 restaurants and a bar. Well, his income is sure to rise (and with it the value of his franchises) if the middle class is well off enough to treat themselves to ribs frequently.

Similar logic could be applied to bankers and hair salons and makers of widgets galore.

I am concerned that there is no possibility of this type of thinking taking hold in a prompt manner, and if it did it would probably cause alot of harm once the thought took hold in the minds of politicians…

…but the US government cannot be revenue constrained and it cannot go broke, become insolvent, or anything else. And right now it should be stimulating, but in productive ways. Investing, not handing out. The solitary negative consequence for it over-spending is inflation, but right now we are not exactly experiencing radical inflation (I am not a shadow stats follower, …).

Regrettably, the political will to do this is likely lacking and the repubs in office have no real motive to wish for an econoimc recovery. High unemployment and miserable populace will be great assets to them in the 2012 elections.

it’s all sad. i had a great little business, wrote my own ticket since 03. thanks to the housing bubble, i have shit now. and for some reason,i keep getting this feeling that we have slipped way over the edge, and that no one really cares. you got a job, fine, and the hell with the guy who doesnt have one. whats really needed, are some savy innovators that have no political affiliation.where are all the innovators, instead we have verbal bullshitters who just suck the life blood from those of us that “used” to pay well over 500 a week in taxes alone,, and did it for 3 plus decades. i could really give a shit anymore, and sometimes i wish this whole fucking place would blow up,only for the fact that no one has guts anymore to make a revolution a reality, and literally hang the ones that need to be hung.i apologize, i have completely lost faith in my country

    Sorry to hear that drummerboy.
Things could change if more than 24% of the population voted and gave a crap.

There is never really an over the edge scenario unless you live in fascist or hyper inflationary times.

Change is simple. It starts with everyone of us.
The biggest thing politicians fear is an informed and voting public!

I agree checklist. No handouts, but programs that reintroduce people back to usefulness and pride.

One difference in say Japan is not only some financial assistance, but actual training to get a citizen productive again so that revenues can be collected in the future.

That is what we lack. We always cut job training and educational programs.

Your right about applying the same logic to main street as we did too big to fail crooks.
