Saturday Cinema with Le Fly: A Clockwork Orange

The fuck? Have you ever seen this movie? Once again, I had zero expectations heading into this film, thinking it was going to be stupid retard shit, like the Rocky Horror crap. Boy was I wrong.

This movie reached into my soul and placed a bit of Kubrick in it forever. It is an amazing film and extremely edgy for the time it was made.

The single best thing about Kubrick’s work is the limited supply. Other notable films include: Full Metal Jacket, Lolita and Sparctucus. But the number one film of all time, made by none other than Stanley Kubrick, is the lunar landing. I mean, what a fucking masterpiece and a ruse. Wow. To this very day, his cinemetography in the lunar landing has millions believing that we traveled TO THE FUCKING MOON IN THE 1960’s WITH TINFOIL AND A CALCULATOR (thank you Mr. Macke for that immortal line).

I know, you saw Mythbusters and they “proved” we went to the fucking moon. Please. I have one word for you: VANALLENBELT.

It is widely believed that Kubrick was so fucked in the head, after tricking the nation and the world, that he went on a hiatus from making films. His resume for the lunar landing was Space Odyssey, naturally. Now if you watch The Shining and decode what he is telling us in the movie, you will see that he is admitting to his complicity in the lunar movie. If you think I am making all of this up, go google it. It is your friend.

Oh, and watch Clockwork Orange. It’s one killer of a film.

Next week Woody Allen.

I am not a conspiracy theorist. The conspiracy theories are ones that support the idea that we visited the moon.

Edgy even now. Watch for the Kubrick exhibit, it travels usually to film festivals. Definitely worth a visit; some of the more unique props are there. Right now it’s in Mexico.

Kubrick’s work on the Zapruder film made him the logical choice for NASA’s sci-fi movie.

The structure of A Clockwork Orange is interesting because Kubrick made it in the form of a symphony, introducing a theme and then exploring that theme over four movements, or acts. Did Little Alex and his droogs make society a debauched and violent place or did a debauched and violent society make Little Alex? The maligned Eyes Wide Shut uses a similar structure.

Also, in the Anthony Burgess novel, Little Alex is 15 and the girls he brings home from the record store are about 12. After Lolita, Kubrick wasn’t ready to go there again.

Oh, and the actor who plays Julian, F. Alexander’s helper/bodyguard after Alex and the droogs beat him and rape his wife, went on to be Darth Vader. Tho James Earl Jones ended up dubbing his voice.

    Matt Bear,

Check out this new NASA Video. We are planning on launching the Orian deep space manned probe. But first we need to solve the Vana Allen radiation belt problem. Huh? What about that 1969 technology. Couldn’t we use it again? I guess we lost it. Too bad. Go to minute 3 and listen very carefully to what he is saying.

I listened. He said that the radiation could harm the electronics. No mentioning it harming the humans. Perhaps the 1969 electronics were different. Perhaps the radiation does not harm tin foil or a calculator.

I don’t know what to think of this controversy over whether we really went to the moon or not. It might be just a conspiracy. OTOH, a sh** load of what we see and hear on the teevee is false. No doubt about that.

Just know this, zero missions since the last Apollo went into outer space, all inside the van Allen belt. No country has ever went to the moon, not even the space advanced Russians. To this day, no nation has plans to visit the moon, not even the lunatic Chinese.

@frog, it does mention humans: “sensors aboard will record radiation levels for scientists to study. We must solve these challenges before we send people through this region of space”.

From Wikipedia: “The total radiation received by the astronauts varied from mission to mission but was measured to be between 0.16 and 1.14 rads (1.6 and 11.4 mGy)”

We already know the answer, someone should tell NASA, looks like they forgot!

I don’t think the concern is electronic, since there have been many many missions to orbit other planets and to the edge of the solar system that have been able to navigate just fine and have been sending data back for decades!

Yes, it does mention humans. But, as I already said, it does not say that the radiation harms humans significantly. It does mention a concern about the radiation harming the electronics.

I expect that the electronics necessary to do all the things a rocket does when humans are on board, may be somewhat different than the electronics necessary to simply collect data through unmanned flights.

The wikipedia section that you quoted was one that I also quoted a bit below here. Apparently that amount of radiation is of little consequence. The next phrase after that sentence we both quoted from wikipedia says that that amount of radiation is “less than the standard of 5 rem (50 mSv) per year set by the United States Atomic Energy Commission for people who work with radioactivity.[29]”

    Here is what wikipedia says:

“The Apollo missions marked the first event where humans traveled through the Van Allen belts, which was one of several radiation hazards known by mission planners.[29] The astronauts had low exposure in the Van Allen belts due to the short period of time spent flying through them.[30] The command module’s inner structure was an aluminum “sandwich” consisting of a welded aluminium inner skin, a thermally bonded honeycomb core, and a thin aluminium “face sheet”. The steel honeycomb core and outer face sheets were thermally bonded to the inner skin.

“In fact, the astronauts’ overall exposure was dominated by solar particles once outside Earth’s magnetic field. The total radiation received by the astronauts varied from mission to mission but was measured to be between 0.16 and 1.14 rads (1.6 and 11.4 mGy), much less than the standard of 5 rem (50 mSv) per year set by the United States Atomic Energy Commission for people who work with radioactivity.[29]”

    Frog,

“We must solve these problems before we send people through this region of space.” Exact quote. I am just asking on simple logical question. Why can’t we use the 1969 technology that seemed to work fine? I am going to call NASA on Monday and ask them to help me understand this logical question. I am sure they will have a great answer. ????

To be a little more clear about what I’m saying, if the electronics we use today get messed up, the humans lose their guidance system and thus they end up lost in space. Big problem.

But maybe if the humans went up with the 1960’s tin foil and a calculator, they would be okay. It’s just that no one wants to go up there with tin foil and calculator as their guidance system any more, now that superior guidance systems are available.

    • Mr. Cain Thaler

The 1960’s technology was less vulnerable because it was inefficient, bigger and less complex. That makes perfect sense that we’re having more problems now with more advanced tech.

As tech gets smaller and energy flow is reduced, the chance of external interference from backdrop radiation grows. This isn’t limited to the Van Allen Belt – personal computers nowadays are encountering the same issue from solar magnetic fields.

So you have to start building Faraday cages around everything to cut down on that or coming up with some interesting engineering solutions.

Yes, and “these problems” that they had just stated seconds earlier in the video, were problems with the current electronics they are using. They mentioned no problems with humans getting excessive radiation. FWIW, the wikipedia article states that the astronauts did not get that much radiation because they traveled through that area very quickly.

Please let us know NASA’s answer.

And please read the 2 wikipedia articles I cited above. The original references are listed at the bottom and may also interest you.

I know wikipedia isn’t entirely accurate. I often use it just to get the original references the article refers to. The article on GMO foods is a total and shocking whitewash, for example.

    Frog,

I will let you know what they say. Hey why don’t you drive a Ferrari really fast through the Fukashima compound. Let me know how that works out for you. Think about that. A sheet of aluminum between them the radiation but it was ok because they went through it fast. Please forgive me. I am laughing really hard right now.

Laugh away. This beiow sounds possible to me. But I’ll ask an engineer friend and see what he says.

This thread has gone full retard.

The Apollo 13 astronauts visited my middle school years ago and answered more intelligent questions from the kiddies than have been posed here.

I met Buzz Aldrin a couple of years ago and he doesn’t seem like a liar, bullshit artist or conspirator who would go along with a dinner reservation he didn’t agree with, let alone faking a seminal (no homo) piece of history.

Some of you gentlemen seem to have misplaced your top hat. May I suggest you take a moment to find it, here within the protection afforded by the open mindedness of the followers of this blog and the fucking Van Allen Belt.

I am calling NASA on Monday. We will get out answers as to why we can’t use the 1969 technology today. This is just simple logic. I don’t accept the answer that the electronics are more complex. Shouldn’t the shielding be better as well. This is just simple critical thinking skills and logic guys.

The violence of the film generated the controversy. Due to the ceaseless barrage of WW2 films, television shows and comic books, coupled with the pervasive fear of the Red Menace, my teenaged friends and I giggled our way through this film. Singing in the rain, indeud.
