Per the 10Q, there’s only 114 Cyberknife’s installed worldwide; 103 are outright sales and 11 are on a shared revenue basis. But at over $4 million/unit, they’re not going to sell dozens of units per hospital. The annuity-like service revenue is appealing.

However, ARAY doesn’t compete directly with ISRG. Their biggest competitor is Varian Medical Systems (VAR).
VAR is expanding into China. I personally know of someone that is over there right now establishing a plant.

There were 509 this time last year, so I would guess somewhere around 650 now. There are big differences between the two companies and they are not direct competition. Plus, insiders have not been unloading shares since the lockup. A few have actually been buying under 15. I will continue to add 500 shares until I get a full position.

When I initially glanced over ISRG’s 10Q, I missed the installed base number. I went back and found it, it’s now up to 719.
I understand ARAY doesn’t compete with ISRG, but NewEquity is right that it does have a similar model. They both sell unique, extremely expensive, high margin, high tech medical instruments with long sales cycles and substantial recurring service revenue.
They get paid by third party payer insurers, so it’s recession proof, consumer proof, and sub-prime mortgage proof.
I like it so far.

ISRG appears to have a wider array (no pun intended) of applications than ARAY.
That is not to say that ARAY isn’t worth a look. As noted earlier, they don’t compete directly, but I would invest in ISRG before throwing money at ARAY.
