Released the year after his memorable take on life inside Hollywood studios and the dark world of talent agents inĀ The Player (1992), Robert Altman’s Short Cuts (1993) shift gears in patching together the lives of of a number of decidedly ordinary suburban Los Angeles people. In terms of being able to intertwine seemingly unrelated characters, you can argue that this film serves as the gold standard for the attempts you see at it today. I would also argue that this is the late Altman’s last great film, featuring an all-star ensemble cast.
