I am from Bethesda, right outside of DC and I grew up in Baltimore when I was a kid just a few years ago. I usually browse the Washington Post and the Baltimore Sun on a daily basis, but this is some bullshit.
If you’re from MD, this is a “WTF” moment…sort of like the one we had during the last hour of today’s trading.
You see, the Mayor of Baltimore just got indicted on 12 counts of all sorts of shit (“allegedly”) that runs parallel to crony capitalism, apparently giving favors to her ex-boyfriend, misappropriating stuff, being charged with theft, perjury, and all the other corrupt stuff that are practiced by other known politicians. This is another case of taxpayers’ money being funneled for personal use.
I’d like to see her get out of this one.
In addition, I, on behalf my fund, recently received the coveted Mayor’s Citation. Is it even worth anything anymore?
Probably not.
So, what does any of this have to do with trading? Well, not much, but in an era where people are getting Madoffed left and right, it’s especially important to do due diligence on people that are in positions of power.
And, of course, if you are a person in that sort of position, please don’t fuck it up.

I too am from Maryland and this should be no surprise to any resident we are a politically very corrupt state, not to mention the 250-300 murders in the city every year from the slinger corner boys who usually take out more bystanders than original targets..piss poor shots. Anyway I too lived and loved the city until cops too scared to do anything took over the police force and politicans that wanted to get re elected didn t want to take serious action as they did in NY in the 90’s. I moved to the county and the Government ruined evry neighborhood with forced seation 8 housing. I ve been in Northern Md near Pa. on a nice piece of property that I WILL DEFEND in event of crisis..God forbid

Chart Addict, Unfortunately corruption and the hubris and the greed that causes it have been with us forever. Fortunately for us traders, we have protection against greed and hubris. Mother market whacks us in the head and takes our money when we get greedy or are filled with hubris. Politicians, CEO’s, and regular Joe’s don’t carry this special protection.

There’s been a couple of scandals like this up here in Boston over the past couple of months.They had one state senator on camara stuffing money into her bra in the middle of a restaurant.Too funny. I think for them it becomes business as usual to the point that they make only the minimum amount of effort to cover their actions.
Also,I agree with Granpa. I took CA statement to mean “They got her and it will be interesting to see how she could get out of it “

yes, granpa/looters/dd. “I’d like to see her get out of this one” = she’s got no chance in hell. she’s done. Her career won’t survive. Even if politicians were miraculously found innocent, they’ll be tarnished for life.
What I don’t understand is that she’s been under investigation for FIVE years, yet she still won the election in 2007.
These people get to the top only to fall over. We’re supposed to be trusting these people.

Maelstrom – The police lost control of the city. People who watch the Wire should know that the show is watered down. I own several properties in Baltimore (I bought one on Port St for $3,000, which also happened to be a block away from a triple murder) and Sec 8 as effectively scared out most of the homeowners and the city is just filled with renters who don’t give a damn about anything. Gentrification will take many, many years. Don’t even get me started on the bullshit property tax hike.
Zmoose – I’m a real estate investor too and rent out all my properties. I provided housing to a lot of people for 4 years so far. I’ve also taught real estate investing. The Mayor’s Citation is the highest award for civil service from the Mayor.
