Yogi’s Saturday Morning Cartoons

Rocky and Bullwinkle were one of the truly great cartoons of the early 1960′s. The next time you’re watching Mad Men, consider that the kids (the sophisticated ones at least) were watching Rocky and Bullwinkle while their parents were downing bourbons and oysters Rockefeller. The show was filled with references to the cold war, and brought the high art of punning to a children’s audience.

Thanks. I guess Homer and Bart, Peter Griffin, and SpongeBob have taken up the mantle in the present. Adventure Time and The Regular Show, and the Amazing World of Gumball are all pretty funny. Maybe they’ll show up in future posts.

Thanks for this. Current day funny cartoons stand on the shoulders of, and owe a debt of gratitutde to, the great Rocky & Bullwinkle.

Are they the ones who had the Fractured Fairy Tales too? Those were my fave cartoons of all time– brilliant.
