An Open Letter To Piers Morgan

Mr Morgan,

I’m a combat veteran, with two tours to Iraq with the 82nd Airborne Division, including the invasion in 2003 as an 18-year-old. You are more than likely already preparing your defenses, but I come in peace. I’m not here to argue with you, you are entitled to your opinion, I’m here to ask a favor instead, that I think will benefit the greater good. That is what we are both here for right? Isn’t that what you are trying to do, keep everybody– especially the children –safe? Sir, if you must know, as I tweeted you last night, I own an Ar-15 series weapon to protect my friends and family. We could argue our opinions ad nauseum, but we wouldn’t get anywhere.

What I am asking for sir, is to look for solutions that everyone can get behind. Before going any further, may I try to reach common ground with you sir? Your last name “Morgan” is very prevalent on my mother’s side of the family, originally from Wales. Though it is a distant relation, we at least have that in common.  Instead of providing one outcome, an ultimatum, please reach out to the other side and work on a unilateral decision, and find common ground. I know you can’t please everyone, but even big personalities– that want to do the right thing –can come to an agreement that is best for the greater good. This is the point of a democracy sir, and I am not trying to give you a lesson in politics by any means, just reinforcing my point. The radicalized thinking that is propagated from two extremely divergent parties is not healthy. Radical thinking leads to radical actions, which most certainly will contain violence of some sort.

Sir, all you need is one protest to turn into a riot, and many people will get hurt. All I ask sir, is that you reach out to people on the opposing side, and instead of argue, ask them how they would solve your issues, and have them ask you how you would solve theirs’. I know that seems like getting your teeth pulled out, but nothing is supposed to be easy. Merely standing on one side of an issue in order to block the other party is akin to stabbing a fan of the opposing team because they are wearing different colors. The important issues always take the hardest work, and it should never be about the individual, it should always be what is better for the collective populace. Mr Morgan, I wish that it was a perfect world where guns, missiles, and especially thermo-nuclear bombs, didn’t exist. Unfortunately sir, it’s a cruel, cold, world, where these horrible implements do in fact exist.

I want to be a parent someday sir, and I want to give my kids the chance to choose what’s right, not what will beat the opposite party. Let’s band together against evil sir, the more separated we are, the weaker we become. We need strength, and that comes through working together.

  1. But your idea won’t make for good TV.

  2. Don’t plead with him. Just shoot him. DUH. Morgan would agree that you would/could do that.

  3. I feel similar webpage owners really should give thought to this important internet site as an example. Genuinely clean and simple to use styling, coupled with terrific articles and other content! You are a pro when it comes to this valuable topic 🙂
