$FIT Fitbit Updates Trackers

verge-2017-08-29_16-03-24.0

Take a look at Fitbit’s new line of activity trackers. The Charge HR, has been the most popular model to date, and gets a fresh upgrade– pictured above.

The Fitbit Charge HR is a very good fitness tracker. One might argue, and we certainly have, that it’s the best fitness tracker available. But the Fitbit Charge HR is nearly two years old, and it has been plagued by issues over the last year. It’s time for a refresh and a refinement. The Fitbit Charge 2 looks like it’s solving all the problems of the original.

One issue with the original Charge HR was that it was actually just an upgrade of the Fitbit Charge. For 30 extra bucks you got a heart-rate monitor. The technical picture looks good for $FIT here too. The stock has finally recovered some major moving averages after a dismal performance in early 2016. As I’m typing, the stock is trading trough the 20 day moving average:

I own the stock and may add to my position here. In my opinion, the company is doing everything right and in the sweet spot for the wearable fitness market. Watch for a breakout in prices above $15.

what’s the long term story for fitbit? Is it to be absorbed into Apple’s ecosystem? It’s a fad product now, and IMO the only real long term story is finding a way to penetrate into the healthcare system in a major way. Like vitals uploading to your doctor’s record kind of shit. I could be wrong though.

FIT will likely be bought. The have very good software and have done a great job making it social and fun. I believe they are already in the healthcare system, and will only grow from here. Cheap down here.

Apple is balls-deep into the healthcare sector and pouring major R&D into it. Major announcements next week on this. Not to say Fitbit cannot carve out a niche.
