The Important Matter Of My Knee

It pains me to have to miss the open tomorrow, but I have a followup appointment for my bum knee. The doctor says I am developing bone spurs and arthritis is likely setting in. He tells me things like, “Cajun I hate to tell you, but you’re going to have to cut out the running and jumping, and focus on things like riding a bicycle.”

My reply was, “THE CAJUN DOES NOT RIDE BICYCLES! FIX MY KNEE AT ONCE!”

The doctor then proceeded to whip out a needle, and said, “Here you go sir, it will help with the inflammation and pain, take this needle.”

Let’s just say one thing, The Cajun does not do needles, EVER. Actually there was a time, over the summer of this year, where they had to stick little needles in my neck for a biopsy. Ya, that sucked. 2012 was a rough year.

Ok, back to the needle pushing doctor. I simply told him again, “Look, I re-injured my knee, I heard something tear, GIVE ME AN MRI, NOT A FUCKING NEEDLE! Please, sir.”

He hesitated a bit, then offended me, then agreed. As I was leaving, he reiterated, “Cajun, stick to the bicycle. Your cross-training days are over.”

Let me just say that I’ve been struggling with this since February of 2012, basically the whole year. I refuse to believe my days are over as a runner, I won’t let that negativity breathe.

Whatever the results are today, one thing is for certain, The Cajun will be running again in 2013.

lil story .. my PTrainer is a pro bodybuilder .. well , was , as he was nothing but first ( in the world ) , some 2 decades ago , in the IFBB pro ranking or competition – I’m not bodybuilder ..

anyhow , to sum it up short : before becoming 1′ in the world , he had some bad injuries ( waist…. ) and doctors ( more then one ) told him to stop lifting weight , or he could very likely be immobilized a day from waist – down , and forever ..

He won the title 1 year after , and he won his life as a pro and respected trainer for a rest of his life .

I’m not telling doctors are nuts or that you should not use some attention – for your own safety – when deciding against a doctor ..
nevertheless they can’t be in your body and understand well what is your motivation ( in life ) and what are your aims ..
they just pull things from examinations and stats .. but they can’t forecast your life ..

well , in any case , make your own decisione , and take great care of your knee and body in any momento of your life .
    😀

I screwed up my knee while helping my son bleed his brakes – it’s still bothering me two years later. I know people in their 70″s that are active runners, and people that permanently injured their knees when they were 30. Tough choice. Cycling’s not so bad, wait till the Doc says you are only allowed swimming.

Ragin, doing the Turkish getup well builds tons of stabilizing muscles into your knees and hips. If running is your jive, consider a few months of TGU work a suspension upgrade. Good luck sir.

I have had screwed up knees since my wrestling days, and the one thing I can tell you is that they DO NOT “get better.”

The best you can hope for is to put off the Arthur Ritis for a time by babying them.

Running is not the way to do that. If I can offer a manly compromise (I think bikes are kind of questionable myself), try an ergometer (rowing machine). Works out almost every muscle in your body and will keep you extraordanarily fit if you keep on it. Not easy, especially at the beginning, but then, you’re an endorphin junkey, no?

I don’t know if you are a candidate but I know someone who went to Germany for a very non-invasive treatment which did miracles for his knee. It is the same treatment that Kobe Bryant did a few years ago.

I believe they take blood, screw around with it, and then re-inject it back and in a matter of days, the knee felt fine.

I can get more information if you want it.
