2013 Will Be The Year of The Cajun, Part 1

It all started back in 2001, right after 9/11.

At this time period in my life I was 19, worked at a restaurant waiting tables, and was about to move to Lafayette, LA to study accounting at UL Lafayette, home of the Ragin Cajuns.

Upon working my morning shift on the very day of 9/11. I remember waiting on a financial advisor’s table, he seemed to be in disarray after the events that took place, as everyone was, but more so on what the market was going to do from here next. He spent his whole morning and afternoon at table 31, watching the TV right above him, and I remember asking him all sorts of questions concerning the market and trading in general.

You see this was a time period where I had no clue on what I wanted to do with my life, but I was searching.

I remember going home that night and asking my father what he knew about the market, and was surprised with his knowledge on the subject. He started showing me simple things such as 50 and 200 day moving averages, and from there on I was hooked.

A few weeks later, I was moving for the first time, out of my parents home in New Orleans. I was off to college.

Before moving, I was working doubles at the restaurant to save for my apartment. I ended up saving a bit more than I needed, so I opened a bullshit Scottrade account. I was determined to figure out how to make money in stocks.

I remember buying and selling things based on no reasoning at all, I just wanted to start trading. I never made any real money until 2004, and that’s when things started clicking.

I remember making a trade in ATT wireless and a few days the company was bought out for a nice premium. Dumb luck. But, that was the day I realized there is real money to be made here. It wasn’t long after that I got an additional student loan to add funds to my trading account.

Things were going great….
