You do realize that Swiss and Israel both have more guns per household than US so it can’t just be easy access to guns and the 2nd amendment that results in so much gun violence in the US.

You do also realize that alcohol related deaths far outstrip gun deaths in the US (by 10 to 1)? Far more children are killed by drunk drivers in the US every year than are killed by maniacs shooting up schools? Forget about the 2nd amendment, let’s bring back prohibition!

You do realize that when you compare the numbers above, the US also has over 3000 murders every year that are non-gun related which also vastly outpaces all the other countries listed? Need to outlaw knives and our hands and feet as well since death by hand or foot are 10-20x more likely in the US than in any of the countries listed above.

And one more piece of very sad trivia? The largest number of deaths in a school massacre actually occurred in 1929 when a nut job set off three bombs in a school.

I think what’s wrong with the picture is how often people try to use a horrible tragedy like today’s to push the need to curtail a major constitutional right.

I realize the poster is old since its West Germany but I am sure the ratios are the same today (if not worse). Your logic is senseless.

Per your logic nothing should be done about anything unless it means “banning that thing”. By that right there should be no safety improvements, or OSHA regulation (well if 85,000 people died making cars should we ban cars?!!) in factories, or any improvement we can make in any form. Because after all other things kill too.

The bottom line is we have a culture of violence. That is very specific to the US of A. Yes it wont go away with ANY one rule or heck ANY one generation but to just accept everything because other things kill a lot of people too is very one dimensional thinking. Maybe we need to ask why this country values life so lowly – especially when 50% of the country is running around telling us how precious life is from 1 second after conception. Life is very throwaway here – for some reason. Maybe we need to ask why versus other countries. Why do we view humans so much more as disposable? Or are we afraid of the answers. Oh nevermind drunk drivers kill a lot of people – that makes it moot.

George, I wanted to write vitriol about the man that you must be but then i realized I just feel sorry for you.

Regardless of gun laws, your response is just incredibly saddening.

i do not want the laws changed. I was just amazed when I saw this picture as it shows clearly how lost we are as a nation.

I believe the man was just pointing out how shocking the numbers are. Why so defensive?

    Thank you @ BRocket

If you’ve seen the original poster, then you will notice I’ve cropped out the part at the bottom that states to ban handguns.

I posted due to the staggering numbers.

And yet these killers sought psychiatric help before they sought guns. Did they get help?

    But it is Our fault.

… or … of course, we could instead yuk it up daily and make a mockery of the whole “gun obsession” issue in this country … and SHOUT repeatedly …

      BUY … $SWHC …

      BUY … $RGR …

      ETC…

Poster is comparing “First World” nations… it’s flawed.

We are no longer in that category.

We are lower in gun deaths per 100k people than say…

    El Salvador
    Jamaica
    Honduras
    Guatemala
    Swaziland
    Colombia
    Brazil
    Panama
    Mexico
    Philippines
    South Africa

You’d have to link me to the post Fly made when he said… when a nation cannot provide for it’s people in a national disaster, we have lost our status as a first world country.

So my point is.. if we are not first world.. then we aren’t doing so bad.

    El Salvador ?

    … ah hem …

    Swaziland ???

    YAWN !!!

    Sleep well knowing that !!!

This is America God Damn it. People have been dying for years trying to get here. I’m sick of hearing about what other countries do. This is our problem and we need to fix it with our solutions. Pushing bullshit statistics around like alcohol deaths and domestic violence involving elephants is fucking pointless. 300 million guns in America. Of fucking course they are gonna make it into the hands of criminals. One gun per household period. It gets taken from you? You don’t deserve another one. Some divorcee in Newton, Connecticut, with a crime rate less than 85% of the national average (yeah I looked it up), has no fucking business having a fucking assault rifle. For what?? In case Canada invades? ??

einstein was right.technology has turned a whole generation into idiots.my take, the american”‘family”, has been forced into a dual income mentality, and more so since the last 40 years. and some stay at home moms aren’t any better by having video games and a tape machine as a baby sitter. a whole generation has literally been flushed down the fucking toilet.makes me sick any fucking more.

If you take out black on black gun violence in the USA our total homicide ratio is around 2.0 deaths per 100k. Much more in line with so called “first” countries. Black on black homicide is around 15.0 deaths per 100k. Much of that difference is due to illegal drugs. So just what kind of a problem do we have again? I will give you a hint – its not racial. Its cultural and a mental health issue.
