Today Apple releases the iMap, which will effectively kill the once ever popular Google Maps on the iPhone. ChessNwine has been all over shorting $GOOG for some time, which appears to have been the correct play.
Technically, Google is in trouble here, as it tests the recent low at 566.47. If we do breach that level, we could very well see a quick selloff to the tune of 50 points, targeting $515.
If you’re looking for a short idea, look no further than GOOG, the stock is in trouble here:

The fact they unbanned my Adwords account screams they are desperate for advertising money.
Nice call on GMCR short, BTW
I didn’t think you ever noticed that one.. I miss the high flyer K-cup days.
You aren’t one of those spammers are you?
Pink is short this piece, as well.
well done Pink.
Did the glorified phone book that is(gasp!) making a phone finally tap out?
I don’t know if you noticed or not but Yelp is going to be tied in to the IMap. That can’t hurt them much.
Your shitty mapping ‘gps’ on the iphone needs all the help it can get. Let us know when you get something half way not retarded.
The Android Development Team
Im not saying it doesnt hurt, just that Apple always used maps in a bastardized version. The iphone developers should have done this to begin with instead of half assing how they used Google Maps. The Droid still destroys the iphone when it comes to this feature.
Having used the iPhone and two different versions of Droids, I would take a iPhone 3G over the most brand new Droid… any day.
Even with an incredible map/navigation app, the Android OS is MISERABLE.
That is GOOG’s problem.
Respectfully, I disagree. I have used both as well. I had an iphone for 2 years and have been using a droid for 2.5 and love the droid. IMO, the OS is superior. It is incredibly stable, quick, and not having to use itunes to load music and data on my phone is great. The idea of the SD card makes more sense too. The gps actually uses gps satellites and has better functionality than most store bought units that I have seen. There is no function the iphone performs that this one doesnt.
For me, I will take the droid and am never going back. But, its all about what works for you. For you, it sounds like the iphone is the solution. I just wish more users would give the droid a chance instead of believing the iphone is inherently better just because.
Man-o-man one time I navigated from Detroit to Phili using an Android. I said avoid toll roads. It tacked on maybe 40 minutes, was very scenic, and gave me the most esoteric, badass route ever. No tolls. At one point I came very close to a toll, and then it turned me through a neighborhood, 25 mph and shit. Boss.
Apple, not so much.
The last will and testament of Steve Jobs.
