I took the weekend off and flew out to southern California. My son was invited to a big showcase camp (Elite 32 King of Kings Camp) and also had a tournament with his AAU team there in Garden Grove. If you haven’t heard me talk up this kid, he’s a beast. 12 years old, 5’10. He’s nationally ranked, even though I know that means nothing…but his team is #1 ranked 2022 team on the West Coast, and #16 in the nation. I mention this partly because I’m a proud dad…lol, but also because he’s at the hub of youth basketball on the west coast. The kids all want to talk about moves and shoes. Period. For these kids, the shoes are part of their personality and popularity at these tournaments.
We travel to SoCal often, normally a couple times a month in the summer for events and tournaments. Since all my boys want to talk about is shoes, I have them pointing out the best shoes to me non-stop all weekend. During the late summer, I started to see a handful of Under Armour basketball shoes hit the court. Not the vanilla Under Armour basketball shoe, but the Curry signature shoe. Again, just a handful started to show up in the gym….but this weekend, about a third of the camp was equipped with the newest version, the Curry 2.
The kids get together to compliment each others shoes, but the only kids receiving compliments and getting pointed at were those with the new UA Curry 2 shoe. There are already a handful of colorways out, but after the weekend, this was the shoe my son wouldn’t stop asking about.
Just last month, Under Armour (UA) CEO Kevin Plank announced at the company’s investor day in Baltimore that he expects revenue to double by 2018 to $7.5 billion, a bold 25% annual growth target from its current sales guidance for $3.84 billion for this year, and a speedup from Plank’s earlier stated goal to reach $10 billion by 2020.
Under Armour management sees 2018 international revenue at $1.35 billion, or 18% of the total, with footwear revenue sprinting to $1.7 billion.
UA’s footwear goals represent a 40% annual growth rate, Macquarie analyst Laurent Vasilescu told IBD. Both its footwear and international growth have been huge. In its most recently reported quarter, Under Armour overseas net revenue spiked 93%. Footwear revenue rose 40% to $154 million on product expansion in running shoes and excitement surrounding NBA MVP Stephen Curry’s signature shoe.
Expect to see Under Armour on the basketball court for many more years to come. The brand has signed the 27-year-old Golden State Warrior through 2024, extending their relationship. The Curry Two, a sequel to his first shoe, launches worldwide on Oct. 24 following early September releases in Asia.
From what I can tell, the shoe has already caught some pretty good traction, and the best way to determine values is to check the resale market where these shoes are already taking on a premium for sizes that have come up as sold out across online shops.
Here’s a look at the monthly chart, to sift though recent noise in the name, but I think this marks a great entry point in the name for a move to $120-125 into next year.
I just picked up a good sized chunk last week and have one more piece to add. Love this name into next year.

“the shoe has already picked up some traction”…..
ah hahahahahaha
good one
Rim shot!
Congratulations on you Boy. Fatherly pride is a great thing. Your son has real potential. That is Great. God Bless.
Sounds good for FL too. No?
Great for $FL, $FINL…yep.
I still have a pair of the very first UA hightops they rolled out around the “click click” days. I’ll wear them to the gym on rare occasion. A great shoe that’s never turned a single head. The best thing these guys could do is LIMITED releases, and get their shenanigans game up. There is an art to making people beg you for your sneakers, and NKE is light years ahead of all others…
I love UA products. I’m wearing their shoes right now. Very comfy.
.
… some unsolicited advice …
Get the kid involved in Tennis !
—–
The lateral movement in basketball will be a tremendous asset on the tennis court …
… and his height is a HUGE (extra Donald Trump) advantage on serve !!!

Plan B !!!
Thank me later !!!

Just from a cross-training approach … the two sports … compliment each other well !

Peter Lynch said ‘buy what you know’ and it looks like you know basketball shoes. Great observation that will make us some $$$. Holding some $UA in my LT account and will add to it tomorrow. Thanks Jeff and congrats on your son’s success. I can’t wait to see what his college years bring.
Curry is hot right now. No doubt. Jordan Spieth carrying the UA brand well for golf.
I’m debating dumping my entire ANF position (cost basis $19 for shares and holding Jan $20’s and moving over.
Bias aside, theoretically speaking would you rather play the turnaround story or the growth/momo?
Indeed the Golf angle could be big. Nike is all hat no cattle a bit. Jordan was the best and all but the kids at some point will be who? Tiger who? UA has the new legends possibly. Could matter.
ummmmmmmmmmmmm….guy named LeBron…ever hear of him??
I’d wear those shoes whether they were on Curry’s feet or not, personally.
I knew a guy who bought a bunch of UA a very long time ago for about $5 a share. He said he was never selling. Haven’t checked back in about 2-3 years though.
I first remember UA back in 2001 when they signed University of Maryland and the protect this house commercial. lol
They’ll never take Nike though. High end Russell. 😛
Baby come out OK today?
Got sent home. Baby is being evicted tomorrow.
I’m growing impatient…
Sitting in the hospital now.
Best wishes. Tweet me a baby pic, if you feel like it….!!!
Have an order in for SCO 96.59 premarket. May not get hit. We were near previous oil resistance. Built in a little for fuckery.
250mil + outstanding sh in USO. Most I’ve seen since tracking it in 2014.
Saw my price flash on my screen but no fill.
Pulled SCO order as we are consolidating just above the order.
Timely order pull. Oil appears to want to run off this pre market consolidation
43.06 is a key Fib level for the Jan contact. Trading slightly above. A positive for the squeeze.
For UWTI playas: notice that the corresponding UWTI price was about 7.65 last month for this Fib level. That is the decay, or cost of holding UWTI.
I am allowing a move to 44.25 – 44.5 before trimming my UWTI hedge. Thus I’d the bottom of the previous channel. 46.40 is the next Fib level up. Follow /CL and trade the UWTI from that.
OVX suggesting a move to 44.50 for /cl. Add 4.5% to your UWTI price and that is a reasonable area to trim longs
Compromise between OVX and 44.50 resistance for /CL: I placed my first sell order at UWTI 8.25.
I wouldn’t put too much credence in the golf angle, as a former assistant Pro it’s a dying sport. Lacrosse however is booming and UA with the Maryland home base is a nice combo.
Still will never be Nike, the Free collection is a juggernaut.
5’10” at 12 is BIG..my kid is 5’8 and is 11..and also plays hoops in a club as well as AAU (although not nearly to the level your son plays)..one question for you JEFF is – how tall are you and how tall is MOM?? Curious to hear any projections for your son as well……………….my kid projects out to 6’6″……..a little small for big time hoops unless he goes beast when he stretches and gets super athletic………he hits the shit out of baseball and loves football too…….hopeful one will get him some $$
Mom is 6’0″. We took him up to the orthopedic specialist in the state that has been most accurate with growth projections and he scored 6’10”
Awesome your kid goes at all sports. Mine just wanted to focus on hoops…wish he would have played them all.
So, when are we getting those tennis classes started…. lmao!!!
We were laughing at the comment you left on instagram. Too funny
fuckin eh bro..6’10 is a jackpot…had cousins that big..Played at St Bonaventure
cant wait to see him develop
