My attention over the last few days has been focused on winning this youth basketball tournament. We accomplished our goal. It wasn’t until my cell phone started blowing up with missed calls and text messages while coaching through the semi-final yesterday that I had seen that both TWTR and X beat, and provided massive wins for our short dated call option positions.
Looking back, this was a much easier prediction than I should take credit for. We took two stocks that were ripe for surprises, comparing them to our APOL earnings trade last year. Beaten down stocks, no expectations, good technical structure overhead. When options offer defined risk, I find it hard to pass on such opportunities. Sentiment is such a great application to stock selection. If you are unfamiliar with this method, you need to come learn this from me immediately in After Hours with Option Addict.
These are the type of trades that can set you up for months. I hope you all made out on the opportunity.

OA, I’m just starting to learn options, and have never even made an options trade. I assume you would not have done this by buying the actual stock? I’ve just learned earnings are so risky and so unpredictable.
If you haven’t traded options before, I strongly suggest you virtual trade them for several months, trying different strikes and expirations. Buy stock (virtually) alongside the options so that you can observe what happens. Options are very alluring because of the leverage they provide. But you have to understand they are a decaying asset with an expiration.

Noni, you can only lose what you bet in options. In that sense, you control risk.
Same with earnings. Find a stock that’s been quiet, beaten down, and sitting right in front of one of our “volume pockets.” Our earnings trades have done well with this set-up.
