Will Bernanke Give Us The Crack?

 

Financial markets are likely to continue to expect another round of Fed easing for the time being, even if Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke just holds out hope for more without committing to it.

Bernanke gives his much anticipated speech at 10 a.m. ET in Jackson Hole Friday, and because he discussed quantitative easing at the Fed’s annual symposium there two years ago, market expectations have been running high that he would promise more.

Is the U.S. Really Going Bankrupt?

“I’ve been watching a number of the RepublicanNational Convention speeches and while I like a lot of what I’ve heard I have to say that there seems to be one overarching and rather disturbing trend in the rhetoric.   There is an endless discussion about the USA going bankrupt.  Even worse, there have been endless comparisons to Greece and other European nations.  This is an egregious misunderstanding ofthe way our monetary system works.  I won’t regurgitate all of what I just recently wrote in this piece, but this is really rather simple so I’ll pull a snippet:

Yelp Needs No Help When it Comes to Shareholder Confidence

” (AP) SAN FRANCISCO – Yelp’s (YELP) early backers apparently still have a high opinion of the online business review service, much to Wall Street’s relief, after insiders at several other Internet companies dumped some of their shares at the first opportunity.

A Wednesday increase of more than 22 percent n Yelp’s stock price signaled the company’s major shareholders are holding on to their stakes instead of seizing on a chance to reap the gains that have accumulated from investments made before the 8-year-old service went public in early March.”
