There are services/technologies that give us new options for consuming our time, and services/technologies that allow us to achieve our various goals in less time.
Too many business models (especially for internet-based social or entertainment services) are based on time consumption. To a large degree, they are involved in a zero-sum battle.
Netflix has helped users save some of the time required to select and obtain video entertainment, but they can’t do much about the competition for 60-120 minute chunks of consumer attention.
