for a summer i drove a rock truck.every time we checked in at the gate,at vulcan materials,we were handed a slip of paper the size of a fortune cookie fortune. on it it said,” according to the surgeon general”, “breathing silica can cause cancer”. use of face mask is suggested. they down play it now. no different than ignoring a vet after an amputated limb.
I still see a ton of masons and brick workers cutting stone and cleaning brick, mortar, etc. without respirators. Some with cigarettes hanging out of their mouths. I can’t believe it really. But don’t get caught sitting on a milk carton or standing on a chair in an office. OSHA will take you down, your worker’s compensation insurance will shoot through the roof, or your “safety committee” will fine you 3 dozen donuts for the infraction.
yea,but how many of them croak before they are 65? osha is a small town in wisconsin, everybody knows that.
