On paper, this must have looked like a great idea.
On the screen, not so much.
I like this show.
Has the best opening theme song, save for Justified, on the teevee.
Have not seen it yet, but the horse racing into a casino angle is very close to home, here in the Bluegrass, where a battle on the subject rages.
______
Dennis Farina is always good.
Michael Mann + Ridley Scott + Milch + great actors, beautiful cinematography and a premise that brings disparate characters together for events that can change the lives of those characters in every episode.
Yet somehow the stories fall flat to me. I just don’t care about any of them or their story arcs. Glad somebody enjoys the show, though, as it probably cost a fortune to make. I think their plan was to eventually sell an edited, cleaned up version to network TV. Every time a scripted show dies, two shitty “reality” shows spring to life.
BTW, I’ve worked with Dennis Farina and he’s really a great guy. Very hard-working and fun to hang out with.
Chi-CAAAH-go solid.
_________
He had a line in a previous episode that had me rolling. He is a novice to horse wagering in the show, bets on ‘his’ horse and wins. He says something loanf the lines of, “Don’t ever talk bad about this country to me!”.
A minor setback.
They can replace the horses with coconut shells and a few of these:

Rumor has it that the hazing Fly underwent at his first off-Wall Street firm involved something like this, leading to his constant desire to kick old men down stairs and punch mustaches off faces.
I’m inclined to believe that it wasn’t hazing, but rather the time-honored practice of sending the new guys out to pick up lunch for the office:

I think they must have just been looking for a reason to pull the plug.
